It appears that Steve McBee Sr. is being released from prison early.
McBee Sr.’s son, Steven McBee Jr., told Page Six,“He is under 60 days now.” The 32-year-old star of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys on Bravo explained that his dad was “doing great” and was preparing to be home just in time for the holidays.
McBee Sr., 64, recently became a grandfather and is “ready to see the grandbabies,” according to his son. He is serving a two-year prison sentence at FPC Yankton in South Dakota. Reportedly, he will be released on September 11, serving less than one year of his sentence.
In 2024, McBee Sr. pleaded guilty to one count of crop insurance fraud and was sentenced to 24 years in federal prison. He reported to prison on December 1, 2025, after being sentenced that previous October. He was also forced to pay more than $4 million in restitution. McBee Sr. self-surrendered to the prison, an experience that is documented for the current season of The McBee Dynasty.
McBee Sr. talked to Peoplelast year and explained that he received advice from fellow reality star Todd Chrisley. In 2022, Chrisley and his wife Julie Chrisley, of the show Chrisley Knows Best, were found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, wire fraud, and tax evasion. President Donald Trump pardoned the couple in 2025, and they were released from prison. McBee Sr. said that he planned on asking Trump for a pardon as well.
His son told People recently, “If that happened, then great. But we don’t expect it, and we’re working through it either way.”
McBee Sr. was the main character of The McBee Dynasty during the first season. However, after his legal troubles became public information, he took a step back. His three oldest sons, Steven Jr., Jesse, and Cole, took over. Steven McBee Jr. became the de facto lead of the show. McBee Sr. has another son, Brayden, who does not often appear. Despite McBee Sr. staying away from the show, he is still constantly the source of much of the drama on the show. He is allegedly even watching this season from prison, according to his son.
The current season, Season 3, is following McBee Sr.’s children as they pick up the pieces of their father’s mess and try to save their family business. Unfortunately, tensions further escalated when McBee Sr. named Kristi, his ex-wife and mother of the children, as the head of the company. “I was blown away,” she said. “I don’t want any part of it.”
He named McBee Jr. the CEO. McBee Jr., who was in Texas at the time, said: “My dad never ceases to amaze me at how much chaos he can create.”
After all that chaos, though, the family rides together to South Dakota to say goodbye to their dad as he reported to prison.
Season 3 of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys airs Mondays on Bravo with episodes available to stream the next day on Peacock.
