Biscuit lovers, beware: A Southern comfort food chain is shuttering the doors of its sole Broward restaurant.
Maple Street Biscuit Company is closing its Pembroke Pines location after being excluded from the sale of dozens of restaurants to Kentucky-based brunch spot Biscuit Belly, according to a July 20 news release.
Eateries being handed off include 34 locations across the Southeast U.S. that will be converted into Biscuit Belly shops over the next 18 to 24 months, tripling the brand’s footprint nationwide and introducing the chain to Florida.
According to Cracker Barrel, Maple Street Biscuit Company’s parent brand, the remaining 16 restaurants will be closed, though the Pembroke Pines location’s last day of operation has not been announced as of July 21.
Cracker Barrel has not responded to the Pembroke Pines News’ request for more information.

“Acquiring an iconic brand like Maple Street, one of the original gourmet biscuit sandwich concepts, was not on my 2026 bingo card,” said Chad Coulter, co-founder and CEO of Biscuit Belly. “When we looked at Maple Street’s geography, footprints, and established teams, a light bulb went off.“
Maple Street Biscuit Company got its start in 2012 with a flagship restaurant in downtown Jacksonville started by co-founders Gus Moore and Scott Evans.
In 2014, the chain made its first leap across state lines with a Chattanooga, Tennessee, location and followed that by moving its headquarters to Nashville in 2019, the same year Cracker Barrel acquired the brand.
By 2023, eateries could be found in 10 states across the Southeast U.S.
Maple Street Biscuit Company’s claim to fame is a breakfast sandwich dubbed “The Squawking Goat,” consisting of scratch biscuits, all-natural fried chicken, a fried goat cheese medallion and house-made pepper jelly. The sandwich was featured on the Food Network’s “Guilty Pleasures.”
Biscuit Belly is a comparatively young restaurant compared to its Florida-born counterpart. The fast-casual brunch spot got its start in 2019 with a Louisville, Kentucky, eatery and now has 15 locations.
