While there were rumors that Paul Skenes would be traded to the New York Yankees after the Pittsburgh Pirates’ star’s girlfriend, Olivia “Livvy” Dunne, tried to make a Babe Ruth move that would’ve cost $1.59 million, they were denied by the pitcher.
Speaking to the New York Post, Skenes was asked if Dunne’s attempt to purchase Ruth’s old apartment was a sign he’d be interested in playing for the Yanks. He called it a “stretch” before elaborating.
“That’s probably reading a little deeper into it than what is true,” he explained to the Post. “If you’re a baseball fan, you’re probably a Babe Ruth fan.”

Pirates star Paul Skenes’ girlfriend Livvy Dunne almost bought Yankees icon Babe Ruth’s old apartment
Dunne recently announced that she was going to buy Ruth’s New York City apartment for $1.59 million. However, the purchase was later denied by the building’s co-op board.
She alleged in a TikTok (via Bleacher Report) that she was “supposed to get the keys” the week that she was informed her purchase had been denied.
Still, the rumors surrounding Skenes being traded to New York surfaced before the failed apartment purchase. An anonymous player claimed Skenes “wants to play for the Yankees.” The pitcher dismissed this in his interview with the Post.
If it ever happens, it’s unlikely to occur soon. Skenes is under contract with the Pirates until at least 2029, so he still has a few years to go. Throughout his young career, Skenes has been selected to three All-Star teams, and he was the NL Rookie of the Year in 2024.
He has been dating Dunne for several years. They met while at LSU. Skenes was on the baseball team, and Dunne was part of the women’s gymnastics team. In addition to her collegiate career, Dunne has been a member of the US Junior Women’s National Team.
