Liverpool was nowhere to be seen on the list of highest paid clubs to benefit from FIFA's payout programme at this summer's World Cup.
The Reds had a number of players involved in the United States, Canada and Mexico over the past number of weeks. And yet. from the Club Benefits Programme applied by the governing body to pay clubs for releasing players to the competition, Liverpool reportedly did not finish among the top 10 for most cash intake.
The Athletic are reporting that Liverpool's Premier League rivals Manchester City are likely to top the list of distributions for the third World Cup in a row.
FIFA paid out the most amount of money they ever have for participation this year with the CBP pot sitting at around $355million. That represented a whopping 70 percent increase from the $209m spent after both Russia in 2018 and Qatar four years later.

The governing body also, for the first time, paid out cash for players playing in qualifiers which boosted club's coffers. However, where Liverpool is concerned, the club's numbers pale in comparison to Man City's who reportedly will have earned $4.4m for their roster's involvement.
While Liverpool sent 11 players to the competition - including Andy Robertson of Scotland, Mohamed Salah from Egypt and France's Ibrahima Konate who have since left Anfield - City had 19 stars there. Of those 19, six of City's players made it to the final weekend of the entire competition.
Liverpool released Alisson (Brazil), Wataru Endo (Japan), Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo (Netherlands), Alexander Isak (Sweden), Alexis Mac Allister (Argentina) and Florian Wirtz (Germany). But only Mac Allister made it beyond the last-16.
There is also the muddying of waters with player registrations. Victor Munoz won the tournament with Spain but Liverpool has only held his registration for a short time.
FIFA pays on the basis of how many days players are involved in the tournament between the release date of May 25 and their final day at the competition. Clubs are entitled close to $5000 per day, per player.
Alongside City, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain make up the top five on The Athletic's list.
Among the rest of the top 10 includes Atletico Madrid, Crystal Palace, Manchester United, Real Madrid and AC Milan.
Liverpool's sum has not yet been revealed but it will not come close to the money earned by City or, indeed, most of the other richest clubs in the world.
Premier League clubs are said to have raked in an astronomical total amount for player participation, sitting at around $34.2m. That blows the second placed Bundesliga in Germany out of the water with their amount at $18.8m.
Still, the cash received in the grand scheme will not break the bank for any club given wage bills as well as their transfer kitty which will unlikely be affected.
