The summer transfer window is officially in full swing after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and Liverpool are eyeing a move for a player who excelled under Andoni Iraola.
Bournemouth’s Alex Scott could be on the move this summer after the 22-year-old central midfielder rejected a new contract offer from the Cherries amid interest from several big-name Premier League clubs, including Liverpool.
Before Scott, who has two years left on his contract, turned down the offer, Bournemouth’s expectation was to keep their star man, who served as a key member of Iraola’s squad that qualified for the Europa League for the first time in club history last season.

With Iraola now at Liverpool, Scott is understandably tipped as a potential big-name signing for the Reds as they look to replenish their squad and compete for the 2026-27 Premier League title.
However, the latest betting odds suggest several rival clubs are ahead of them in the race for Scott’s signature. Arsenal and Manchester United are currently rated as the co-favorites to land Scott, each given +225 odds.
Newcastle (+300) and Chelsea (+350) are next, followed by Liverpool (+500). Although plenty can change between now and the end of the summer window, it appears that the Reds are off the pace of their domestic rivals in the race to sign one of the most sought-after midfielders in the country.
A big part of where Liverpool rank is the fee it could take to pry Scott away from Bournemouth, although the south coast club lost some leverage after he decided against inking a new deal.
With the massive sums required to land Premier League-proven central midfielders already this summer, including Matheus Fernandes ($112 million) and Sandro Tonali ($133 million) going to Spurs and Elliott Anderson ($153 million) to Manchester City, it is presumed Bournemouth will not let go of Scott for anything less than $100 million.
Clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United have not been afraid to shell out that type of money in the past, while Liverpool usually tend to stray away from such spending.

Add in that the club has not made any money from outgoings this summer – Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate, and Andy Robertson all left at the expiry of their contracts – and the budget is expected to be tight.
Scott has spent the last three seasons at Bournemouth and had his best campaign yet in 2025-26.
He started 34 Premier League games, scoring three goals and providing one assist as the Cherries secured a sixth-place finish, the best in club history in the top flight.
