According to Gestha, the Spanish union representing Tax Agency experts, each member of Spain’s World Cup-winning squad is expected to receive a gross bonus of approximately €754,701.92, which converts to roughly $885,000 USD. The payout stems from an agreement with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which promised players 45 percent of the prize money awarded by FIFA for winning the tournament.
FIFA awarded Spain’s federation approximately €44 million, or about $51.6 million USD, for capturing the World Cup title. Under the agreement, nearly €19.8 million—approximately $23.2 million USD—will be distributed among the players.
The bonus structure reportedly rewarded success deep into the tournament, with Spain’s stars agreeing to collect their largest incentives only if they advanced to the final rounds and ultimately lifted the trophy.
However, while the figures appear staggering on paper, the players will not be taking home the full amount.

Under Spain’s tax laws, many of the players will surrender nearly half of their earnings to income taxes. Depending on where they play their club football and their tax residency status, some players face personal income tax rates as high as 49.5 percent, while others fall closer to 45 percent.
For those taxed at the highest rate, that translates into a tax bill of roughly €370,000, or approximately $434,000 USD, reducing the players’ net World Cup earnings to roughly €385,000, or about $451,000 USD, before considering any additional financial obligations.
Despite the sizable deductions, few players are likely to complain after completing one of the most dominant World Cup campaigns in recent memory.
