Summer fashion is in full swing and the style trends I’m seeing across Los Angeles are surprisingly tame, so much so that I’d even venture to consider them timeless.

Pull-on pants and cool capris feel like an elevated upgrade to denim shorts, and flip-flops are the sandal of the summer, yet again. Denim is out of the question, so instead, we’re opting for streamlined midiskirts that can be dressed-up or down. And, breezy button-down shirts are yet again the go-to layer of choice for Angelinos. Capris

Capris have been on the cusp of making a comeback for some time now, and I’m here to officially tell you, they’re so back. Despite the bottom’s polarizing nature, they’re a favorite among Gen Z icons like Kylie Jenner and Hailey Bieber, but Jennifer Lopez and Khloe Kardashian’s recent outing in the knee-length pants prove the style is an intergenerational favorite. I see them the most styled in L.A. with heeled flip-flops and a cute tank top.

Flip-Flops

Of course, flip-flops had to make this list. How could they not? My friends and I in L.A. wear flip-flops year-round, but they make a grand appearance once the weather rises above 75-degrees. All kinds of open-toed sandals are trending right now, but I’ve seen tons of different variations of flip-flops in sleek leather and fun jellies; in chunky platforms; with cool charms—the list goes on.

Midi Skirts

Midiskirts are the breezy, pants-alternative summer trend that’s taking the spot of the boho maxiskirt trend that’s dominated the past few years. The sleek midiskirt is elevated, but is much cooler and easygoing than the stiff pencil skirts of boardrooms past. See: how Kendall Jenner wore the silhouette to an event in New York. It’s so easy to pair with any basic top and heeled sandals or flip-flops.

Breezy Button-Down Tops

I’m noticing everyone on the West Coast layer their elevated basics with a lightweight button-down top. A crisp white button down will always be a classic choice, but nautical striped options seem to be the print of the summer. You can throw it over a bathing suit, a pair of linen pants, trousers—the list goes on. If the top feels too basic, add on a fun brooch to bring in some personal flair.
