Elon Musk vs. "The Odyssey"

Multiple times this year Elon Musk has taken issue with casting announcements of "The Odyssey," Nolan’s telling of the fictional story from author Homer.

While millions have enjoyed the film in theaters around the world, Musk is already ready to create a new remake of the classic tale.

"Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer," Musk tweeted.

Grok Imagine is owned by Grok, which is a part of SpaceX SPCX, the space company led by CEO Elon Musk.

While it is unlikely that movie theaters would show Musk’s version given the AI usage and already having shown Nolan’s tale, Musk could release the film on social media platform X, where he is also the most followed user.

Musk amplified a post from a user who made a three-minute short of "The Odyssey."

"The Odyssey" is a fictional work, which makes Musk’s use of "historically accurate" somewhat questionable. According to a report from Variety, this comment centers around some of the members cast in the film.

Musk has been vocal about black actress Lupita Nyong’o being cast as Helen of Troy, even going so far as to call Nolan "an anti-White racist" back in March. Musk has also spoken out about the casting of transgender actor Elliot Page, who plays Sinon in the film.

Musk has accused Nolan of casting certain people in the film to appeal to the awards ceremonies.

Along with suggesting that Grok could make the film, Musk also supported a social media user who said they want Musk to give Mel Gibson $100 million to make a new version of “The Odyssey” with “painstakingly historically accurate ships, armour, weapons and casting."

"I’m down," Musk replied.

The Odyssey Success

"The Odyssey" opened with $123.5 million in domestic box office over the weekend, becoming the third highest-grossing opening of the year. The movie was produced by Universal Pictures, which is owned by Comcast.

The film also took in $139.6 million from international screens. Globally, Imax made up $51.8 million of the total.

Reviews of the film have been mostly positive. The film has an 8.5 rating on IMDb. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 94% rating from movie critics and a 97% score from moviegoers.

Musk’s Entertainment History

Musk has previously been the inspiration for characters in movies like “Don’t Look Up” and “Glass Onion: Knives Out Mystery.” Musk was also an inspiration for the portrayal of Tony Stark in the Iron Man films with Robert Downey Jr. in the title role.

When it comes to criticizing TV shows, Musk has had no trouble sharing his thoughts on social media, including his past criticism of another Prime Video show, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.”

Musk has also criticized the final season of Netflix hit “Stranger Things” for a gay storyline that he deemed “completely unnecessary.”

The billionaire also criticized the plot of the finale of "The Boys," while admitting that he had not watched it himself, only based on what others were saying.

Elon Musk says 'if you value Tesla as just an auto company, fundamentally, it's just the wrong framework' — more like 'a dozen technology startups'

Trying to fit some companies into familiar categories can be like trying to describe a smartphone as just a telephone. Tesla CEO Elon Musk says that’s exactly the mistake many investors make when they evaluate Tesla. "If you value Tesla as just an auto company, fundamentally, it’s just the wrong framework," Musk said during Tesla’s first-quarter earnings call in 2024. Instead, he argued, Tesla should be viewed as a leader in artificial...
