According to Film Ink, it's a scene in Dr. No, which was the first James Bond movie. In the scene, Bond, played by Connery, delivers what would later become his iconic line: "Bond, James Bond." Who that will be is anyone's guess, as many different actors have been mentioned as possibilities and in betting markets.
The Scene Finds James Bond Playing Baccarat at a Casino
In the scene, Bond is playing baccarat at a casino. The scene is reminiscent of one in which Craig's Bond engages in a high-stakes game that sees him poisoned.
The Dr. No scene shows Bond engaging in flirty banter with a love interest named Sylvia Trench. At one point, she says, "I admire your luck, Mister," and she gives her name after Bond tells Trench that he likes her courage.
That's when Bond delivers the iconic line before the pair walk away together, and discuss having dinner.
According to 007.com, "The opening line has its origins in Chapter 7 of Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale. After CIA Agent Felix Leiter asks 007 his name, Bond replies, 'Mine’s Bond — James Bond.'" In the Dr. No movie scene, Bond is sitting in an "upscale casino Les Ambassadeurs playing Chemin de fer," that site says. The Action Elite also lists the scene among the best Bond movie scenes of all time. After all, the scene delivered what would become Bond's signature line.
What's the plot of Dr. No? "In the film that launched the James Bond saga, Agent 007 (Sean Connery) battles mysterious Dr. No, a scientific genius bent on destroying the U.S. space program," Rotten Tomatoes says. Other lists choose different James Bond movies for the top spot. Collider chooses a scene from Goldfinger in which Bond is tortured.
"Goldfinger is a groundbreaking action picture, but the mind games of it all are an essential reason why it's commonly, often considered the greatest Bond picture," the site noted.
However, Collider placed the Dr. No scene second. "He's gorgeous, wry, and doesn't break a sweat emptying his new Walther PPK into an opponent who's had his six. It's all so… defining," wrote Collider.
