A cosmetic procedure turned deadly after a practitioner was accused of performing an illegal medical procedure. Luis Rojas Cabrera performed the procedure despite having no medical license or legal authority to carry out the treatment.
The procedure resulted in the death of 27-year-old Elizabeth Barron, who passed away shortly after the procedure. As a result, authorities launched an investigation into Cabrera into how he managed to present himself as a medical professional.
Man Accused of Performing Illegal Anti-Aging Procedure After Woman Dies
According to reports from the Daily News, Luis Rojas Cabrera was performing a controversial NAD+ anti-aging procedure at his Bronx wellness center. During the procedure, he used an intravenous tube to administer NAD+ into the right hand of Elizabeth Barron.
Immediately after the injection, the 27-year-old had a cardiac arrest and was later pronounced dead. The report mentioned that he tried to call 911 immediately after she went unconscious. He was later taken into custody, and a criminal complaint was filed against him.
“I made a very big mistake,” Cabrera told the cops. “I need to call my family because I have a feeling I will not be home for a while.” He claimed that his New York medical license application is still “pending,” but he has a physician assistant license in Puerto Rico. The complaint mentioned, “In New York he is only licensed as an esthetician, a skin care specialist specializing in cosmetic procedures.”
Ethan Reisbaum, Assistant District Attorney, described what happened after the procedure, that is, Baron immediately going into a cardiac arrest and losing her life. “The defendant does not have a license to practice medicine in New York State and has no legal authority to administer NAD+ via an IV,” he added. “Furthermore, administering NAD+ via an IV requires a prescription from a medical professional.”
Luis Rojas Cabrera was released without bail after his arraignment. However, he could face more serious charges after the autopsy determines the patient’s cause of death. The report mentioned that Baron was rushed to the New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital with an IV catheter and tubing still inserted in her hand when she died.
Interestingly, this was not the first time the unlicensed doctor had two prior encounters with law enforcement in 2025. In November 2025, he was busted for possession of a metal baton. Then a couple of days later, he was busted for possession of 200 vials of prescription medications, more than 30 tablets, and 10 syringes of lidocaine, an anesthetic.
In December 2025, the two cases were downgraded to Newark Civil Court, and six months later, it was dismissed. “He’s a good man, a good father and a good doctor. That’s why I’m so shocked,” Luis Rojas Cabrera Jr., the son of Luis Rojas Cabrera, said.

In a separate report from CBS News, Dr. Tommaso Addona, a board-certified plastic surgeon at New York Plastic Surgical Group, shared a non-negotiable set of instructions that patients should follow before having a cosmetic procedure. He explained that a person should always ask about the licenses of three things: the person, the building, and the bottle.
“The person administering the injection, you want a license there. The facility where the provider is practicing, you want a facility licensure there. And then on top of that is the manufacturing license,” He said. “These products have to come from companies that are authorized and approved to manufacture these products.”
Dr. Addona explained that before recommending a medical professional to family members, he does a “deep dive online about them.” He acknowledged that the reality is “tough” to control, but the patients can control it if they “do their homework.”
