A 25-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a high-speed crash in Vero Beach, with investigators determining that excessive speed was the sole factor that led to the deadly wreck.
According to the Vero Beach Police Department, officers responded on July 17 to the intersection of Eighth Avenue and 21st Street after receiving a report of a deceased person in the grassy median.
Investigators identified the man as the driver of a 2008 Honda CBR1000 motorcycle. Police said the motorcycle left the roadway as it approached the intersection and crashed into a concrete utility pole.
Following the crash, the department's traffic division reviewed footage from multiple traffic cameras along U.S. 1 to retrace the rider's movements before the collision.
Police said video showed the motorcyclist entering the Vero Beach city limits around 12:30 a.m. An analysis of the footage determined the motorcycle was traveling 113 mph when it passed through the intersection of 15th Place and U.S. 1, approximately a half-mile from the crash site.
The investigation concluded that speed was the sole contributing factor in the crash.

The rider's death comes as law enforcement agencies continue to warn motorists about the dangers of excessive speed, particularly on motorcycles where riders have little protection during a crash.
In a statement, the Vero Beach Police Department called the incident a tragic reminder of the consequences that can come from driving too fast.
The department said:
This is a tragic reminder to please drive safely and adhere to the posted speed limits on the roadways."
Authorities have not publicly released the victim's name.
The crash remains a sobering example of how a single decision behind the handlebars can have irreversible consequences, turning a late-night ride into a life lost far too soon.
