WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A 17-year-old is being charged as an adult after police said he shot two people, including another teenager, during a robbery in Northwest.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the investigation began just before noon Tuesday when officers responded to a reported shooting in the 4500 block of Kansas Ave. NW. This is near the E.L. Haynes charter school.
At the scene, police found a man and a teenage boy with gunshot wounds. Medics transported the pair to the hospital for treatment.
Upon further investigation, detectives learned that the man and teen agreed to meet the suspects to sell them an item that had been posted online.
However, during the interaction, one of the suspects allegedly tried to take property from one of the victims, and a struggle broke out.
Police said that’s when 17-year-old Damien Mowrer, of Northwest D.C., pulled out a gun and shot the man and the teen.
According to police, Mowrer is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (gun) and robbery.
Police said the incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call (202) 727-9099 or text the Department’s tip line at 50411.
