Senior dogs and cats in shelters are often overlooked by potential pet parents due to possible health issues and limited lifespan. Yet these fur babies have so much love left to give and make a wonderful addition to families.
Ruby is a 14-year-old cat at the NAWS Humane Society and longing for a loving home to spend her golden years.
The TikTok from @franflight shared Ruby's story and how this pretty kitty had been in a shelter several times before.
"This is Ruby's third time back at the shelter," the on-screen text explained as the pretty kitty cuddled with a NAWS staff member. "She is 14 years old and has experienced so much loss."
Ruby has some health issues due to her age, but she still has a heart of gold.
"She doesn't see as well as she used to, her hips don't work the best anymore either — neither do her kidneys," the story continued. "But there's one thing that hasn't changed about Ruby — her wanting that human connection."
This feline fur baby needs a home that can give her the love and support she needs in this season of her life and help her heal from her past trauma.
"A connection that lasts," the post noted. "A connection that is understanding and empathetic. A connection that is patient. A family to be there for her the last part of her life."
Why Adopting a Senior Cat Is So Rewarding
While some adopters are hesitant to bring home a senior cat because of certain health conditions, they need to consider the joy and love these older felines bring to a family.
Senior cats usually have less behavioral issues and are calmer than younger cats. They are very affectionate and have a truly grateful spirit. These older kitties also have established personalities, so there's no guesswork involved in how they will act. What you see is what you get.

Ruby is still waiting for her forever home. She likes other cats but prefers a home without dogs. Hopefully, someone will soon open their heart to give Ruby a chance.
