A bar in Central Mass. that hosted musical acts for more than a decade will close its doors for good at the end of the year.
Halligan‘s Bar, at 889 Southbridge St. in Auburn, will close after Saturday, Dec. 12, according to the bar’s Facebook page. The owners of the bar wrote that they plan to retire after 11 years and want to travel.
Friends Steve Bertel and Paul Brosnihan have been running Halligan’s Bar since 2015, according to the bar’s website.
“For 11 years, you have all been the absolute light of our life,” the post reads. “We have shared every joy, sorrow & triumph together. How blessed are we?!?! These bonds are forever etched on our hearts. You will forever be etched in our hearts.”
Though the bar is set to closed, the owners say they still plan to celebrate until the final day of operations.
“We have so much to celebrate with you over the next five months,” the post reads. “On Saturday, Dec. 12, our final celebration with all of you will begin at 1 p.m. until close. Music is what brought us together ... we will have so many great bands, food and a day full of love & light!”
The bar is known for hosting musical acts at its function hall. Such bands include the Hudson-based rock band Bone City, and the 1980s-themed band “The Flock of A-Holes.”
“There are no words big enough to express how much love & gratitude we hold for each and every single one of you,” reads the post.
