A North Texas community will finally get its first taste of the H-E-B life when Texas' favorite grocery chain debuts this week. 

Murphy, a suburban city nestled about 22 miles northeast of Downtown Dallas and home to around 21,000 residents, will celebrate the opening of its first H-E-B on Wednesday, July 22, with festivities kicking off bright and early at 6 a.m. The project has, quite literally, been years in the making, with city officials first announcing the news back in April 2024 after years of waiting.

"Murphy has been looking forward to this announcement for years, and to see it becoming a reality is truly exciting," City Manager Aretha Adams previously said in a spring 2024 news release.

The San Antonio-anchored grocer confirmed the opening date earlier this month, with the upcoming storefront slated for 740 E. FM 544, Murphy, TX 75094. And Murphy residents are in luck: Their first-ever H-E-B comes with a True Texas BBQ.

That's one of several amenities slated for the location, which will also include a drive-thru pharmacy, curbside pickup services as well as an adjacent car wash and fuel station. 

Murphy's impending opening is the latest in a series of concerted efforts made by H-E-B to expand its footprint in North Texas, specifically zeroing in on the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. That expansion comes with a massive, $52 million store to serve as H-E-B's first within Dallas city limits, with that development tentatively poised to wrap construction work in fall 2028.
