The next incarnation of the Zenith CH 750 has officially been unveiled to the public at EAA AirVenture in the form of the prototype CH 750 Super Cruzer.
During Tuesday's unveiling, the company noted the prototype was flown to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, from the Zenith factory in central Missouri.
The Zenith Super Cruzer is a tricycle-gear, all-metal, high-wing design, described by the company as a cross-country cruiser, featuring roomy side-by-side seating with a rear jump seat. The aircraft is equipped with a stock Lycoming O-360 (180 hp) engine and three-blade, ground-adjustable Sensenich propeller.
The company noted the prototype's instrument panel sports a center-mounted Garmin G3X display console, with shelf space in front of both the pilot and passenger to make the most out of cabin space. The aircraft feels large because of the large bubble doors, which result in a 50-inch-wide cabin with unsurpassed visibility and make entry and egress easy.
The Super Cruzer was developed as a refinement of Zenith's STOL CH 750 Super Duty and the Zenith CH 750 Cruzer-both designs by Chris Heintz.
Zenith said the Super Cruzer combines the most popular attributes of each of those designs-increased cruise speed and cross-country performance with a generous useful load, spacious cabin, short takeoff and landing (STOL) performance, as well as industry-leading ease of construction that the company is known for.
Like all current Zenith kits, the Super Cruzer utilizes final-hole-size, match-drilled parts and assemblies for "quick, accurate, and straightforward kit assembly." relying primarily on blind (pull) rivet assembly.
Zenith estimates kit assembly to be less than 400 hours for typical builders. The prototype aircraft on display this week at AirVenture was built entirely from parts cut out and drilled, final hole size, on Zenith's high-speed CNC routers.
