Zendaya revealed that she plans to take an acting break after her hectic year

It’s no secret that Zendaya is having a very busy year.

Over the spring, she was promoting her A24 black comedy The Drama and the third and final season of her HBO series Euphoria.

Now, the press tours for both Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey — in which she plays the Greek goddess Athena — and Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day are underway.

And towards the end of the year, Zendaya will promote Dune: Part Three, marking her final press tour of 2026.

A couple of months ago, Zendaya told Elle that she was considering taking a break from acting following her hectic year. “It’s going to be a long year, but what’s great is that I’m really proud of everything. I just really love my job,” she said. “But I think that after this, I’m going to have to take a little bit of a break. [Though] as soon as I take a break, I start to go crazy. And I’m like, ‘I need to work.’”

Now, Zendaya has talked further about her plans to temporarily “disappear” from the spotlight. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the NYC premiere of The Odyssey this week, Zendaya was asked what she plans to do after her five press tours of the year are finished. She replied, “Oh, girl, nothing. Just mind my business, you know? And stay to myself.”

“I think sometimes it’s, you know — this is such whirlwind, and you’re kind of like in a new place every second, and your brain is kind of all over the place, and it’s fun and I’m grateful, and I wouldn’t change a thing, but sometimes you need to just, you know, disappear for a little bit,” she said.

Zendaya’s husband, Tom Holland, has talked extensively about taking acting breaks when work gets too busy. Back in 2021, amid the release of his film Spider-Man: No Way Home, he told People: “I’ve spent the last six years being so focused on my career. I want to take a break and focus on starting a family and figuring out what I want to do outside of this world.”

Zendaya and Tom tied the knot earlier this year after roughly five years of dating.

In 2023, Tom revealed that he’d taken a lengthy break from acting after his incredibly “difficult” experience filming the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room — in which he played an antisocial man mistakenly accused of being the culprit of a shooting — took a toll on his mental health.

“I’m no stranger to the physical aspects of the job doing the whole action-movie thing. But the mental aspect, it really beat me up, and it took a long time for me to recover afterwards, to sort of get back to reality,” he told Entertainment Weekly of his filming experience as he revealed he struggled to differentiate between his real life self and his onscreen character.

“I really enjoyed it, but then again, the show did break me,” he later told Extra TV. “There did come a time where I was sort of like, ‘I need to have a break.’ I disappeared. I went to Mexico for a week and had some time on a beach. And I’m now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was.”

Just last year, Tom stressed the importance of taking acting breaks during an interview with GQ. “I feel really blessed to be at a point in my career where I can take time off, reset, and come back ready to go. You can’t be in every movie, and you can’t do your best work when you’re burnt out.”

“What I’ve learnt is that it’s important to set boundaries – to be mindful about overworking,” he added. “I’ve got a slightly busy year next year, and then I’ll probably take a bit more time off in 2027. We’ll see.”
