The New York Yankees are preparing for the MLB trade deadline. The ball club is obviously buying, but that does not mean all of their top prospects will be available. According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, Yankees No. 1 and No. 4 overall prospects George Lombard Jr. and Carlos Lagrange are “non-starters” in trade discussions.

The Yankees have other intriguing prospects. They are still more than capable of building a trade package that will entice sellers. One has to wonder if New York would consider including Lombard or Lagrange in a trade package for a superstar player. For now, it appears both prospects won’t be moved.

The Yankees are a talented team as currently constructed. However, Aaron Judge’s injury return timeline remains uncertain at the moment. With Judge out due to injury, New York may have added motivation to make a deal. Even if Judge was currently playing, the Yankees would still look to upgrade their roster given the possibility of playing the Los Angeles Dodgers once again in the World Series.

Every contender around the MLB world knows it has to think about a possible Dodgers postseason matchup. Los Angeles has won back-to-back championships, and the team still features the most talent in the game.

The Yankees are one of the best teams in the American League without question. Overall, the league is rather weak this year. The Yankees’ biggest competition is a Tampa Bay Rays ball club that has upset expectations.

Nevertheless, New York surely feels confident about its chances of reaching the World Series.

Given the amount on his shoulders and given the journey, on the field and off, required to climb the minor league ladder, he probably did not need more to worry about each July (or in...
