NEW YORK − Ahead of schedule, Max Fried is arriving back in the Yankees’ rotation. Instead of throwing 60-something pitches in a second minor league rehab start Wednesday, the veteran lefty is set to start the second game of a day-night doubleheader vs. the Pirates.
Due to a forecast of sustained rain and severe weather, Tuesday's 7:05 p.m. Yankees-Pirates game was postponed at Yankee Stadium.
The game will be played as the second game (7:05 p.m.) of a split-admission doubleheader on Wednesday, July 22, with Fried listed as the Yanks’ starter.

Yankees’ ace Gerrit Cole is listed as the game one starter, taking his scheduled turn.
Fried hasn’t made an MLB start since May 13, landing on the injured list with a bone bruise to his pitching elbow.
Last Friday at Triple-A Scranton, Fried began a minor league rehab assignment, throwing 52 pitches in three innings and yielding two runs on five hits against the Red Sox’s affiliate.

Tickets dated Tuesday, July 21, will be valid only for Game 2 (scheduled for 7:05 p.m.) on Wednesday, July 22, and will not be valid for Game 1, the Yankees said.
Yankees vs Pirates Wednesday afternoon game time changes
The originally scheduled Wednesday afternoon game has been changed from 1:35 p.m. to 1:05 p.m. start.
Will Warren had been due to make his first post All-Star Game start for the Yanks on Tuesday night, with the Pirates countering with fellow right-hander Bubba Chandler.
Pirates' righty Mitch Keller was originally due to pitch vs. Cole in the series finale.
