The New York Yankees have been playing some solid baseball of late, winning two straight games over the Los Angeles Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates to keep pace with the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. The Yankees have encountered some turbulence on the injury front lately, with Aaron Judge and Max Fried both currently out of the lineup with various ailments.
Also out for the Yankees is veteran Giancarlo Stanton, who last played on April 24 and has since been dealing with a calf injury.
On Wednesday, the Yankees got the latest non-update on Stanton’s status from manager Aaron Boone.

“He’s in his running progression now. I don’t have a timeline. I don’t know when he gets to the end of that and then what we do to get him back, but I feel like he’s moving in a good direction, and I just don’t know if that’s a couple weeks from now, a few weeks from now, whatever it is. But he is getting much closer to that point,” he said, per New York Post Sports on X, formerly Twitter.
It’s certainly not likely to ease the minds of Yankees fans, who have now been waiting three months for the veteran to return to the lineup amid an injury situation that can be described as murky at best. It’s unclear exactly what a typical “running progression” is, and it doesn’t seem that Boone is fully informed on what the next steps are any more than the fans are.
In the meantime, the Yankees will try to continue to hold down the fort without him, which will continue on Wednesday with another game against the Pirates at home.
