For AI company Cognition

As part of the C-suite house cleaning and ongoing staff bloodletting at Xbox, new CEO Asha Sharma appointed new VP of engineering Jared Palmer on May 5. Just months later, he's already leaving the company.

Palmer shared the news on Twitter today, just over two months since his appointment was made public.

"Personal update: I've joined [Cognition] to lead engineering," he says. "I'm grateful to [Asha Sharma] and everyone at Xbox for an amazing year."

Cognition, if you're unfamiliar, describes itself as the home of "Devin, the first autonomous software engineer" and "a team of interdisciplinary makers who love working on the hardest problems in AI."

In May, Palmer said, "I’ll be focused on building world-class tools, services, and experiences for developers and players across the Xbox ecosystem. Grateful for the opportunity and excited to get to work."

Palmer, like Sharma herself, previously worked at Microsoft's CoreAI. Another May appointee, David Schloss, who's now head of Xbox subscription and cloud work, previously worked at Instacart, also like Sharma, who was once its COO.

Jonathan McKay, Tim Allen, and Evan Chaki were also put to work under Sharma around the same time. Everyone but Palmer seems to still be at Xbox.

At the time, Sharma said, "Our goal with this [leadership] change is simple: build a platform that is affordable, personal, and open by staying close to the work and the people we serve."

Xbox Game Pass isn’t "viable" with so few subscribers, says former Forza lead bracing for more "studios getting shut down."
