Saturday Night’s Main Event Recap Package and WWE Superstar Arrivals
Highlights of the Madison Square Garden program showed the top spots and match results of the July 18 edition of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Wrestlers advertised for the show were seen exploring backstage ahead of the show.
The Vision (c) (Bron Breakker & Austin Theory) defeated Je’Von Evans & Dragon Lee for the WWE World Tag Team Championship
Evans and Lee surprised their opponents before they could get in the ring. Theory gained his bearings, cornering Lee with shoulders to the midsection. Evans twirled him over with a Tornado-Hurricanrana. Breakker hurled the Young OG with suplexes. Lee equalized Theory with a dropkick so he could unleash a Facebreaker-DDT. Breakker caught Lee mid-leap from the top and crushed him with a Crossbody Slam.
Evans toppled Theory with a DDT and a dive outside. Breakker smashed into the barricade when his Spear missed Evans. Lee stomped Theory off the ropes in the corner. Maxxine Dupri snared Lee’s legs to allow Breakker to clothesline him on the apron. Theory held Lee upright long enough for Breakker to pick up speed for a Spear that gained The Vision a title retention.
Post-Match: Alpha Academy’s Otis and Akira Tozawa broke up a post-match beatdown. Otis singlehandedly overwhelmed Breakker and Theory like a sentient wrecking ball. Breakker incapacitated Otis, while Theory laid Tozawa flat. Just like before during their match, Theory propped Otis up for a full-speed Spear from his tag team partner.
Match review: I’d like to see more of Evans and Lee together as a tag team. Maybe they could create a babyface faction somewhat like AEW’s Conglomeration. The post-match sucked. I would rather buy myself a pair of oven mitts and then have my hands torn off so I could no longer wear the oven mitts properly than have the world be subjected to more Vision slop, especially at the expense of Breakker.
Judgement Day bullied Danhausen
Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, and Liv Morgan threatened to abuse Danhausen if he didn’t lift their curses and return their money. He seemingly obliged and ran off.

Again in the dark, Cass talked about how deep you can fall in the dark.
Segment review: Though this was the same as last week, I’m excited to see what the future has in store for Cass.
Danhausen offered money to the fans
In the ring, Danhausen said he would prefer to give the Judgment Day’s money to the crowd instead of them. Mysterio and McDonagh demanded he return the money. He cursed them again. Joe Hendry stopped a beatdown on Danhausen, but Liv Morgan slipped away with the money.
Segment review: I guess, man.
Oba Femi was tired of Judgment Day’s Shenanigans
Adam Pearce yelled at Judgment Day for the money issues. Femi was also irate at this, leading to a match with Mysterio and McDonagh, much to Hendry and Danhausen’s delight, and Morgan’s chagrin.
Oba Femi defeated JD McDonagh
Danhausen and Hendry kept McDonagh within Femi’s orbit in the ring. He ragdolled McDonagh across the ring before a Tornado-Spear and powerbomb sent the Irishman to the back.
Post-match: Femi said that the fake money was in the bag, and the real money is in Hell in a Cell.
Match review: It’s Oba Femi we’re talking about here. Even a lame squash was a palate cleanser here.
National Anthem performer at SummerSlam revealed
Darius Rucker from the classic 1990s band Hootie and the Blowfish was announced to be singing the National Anthem at SummerSlam in Minnesota.
Solo Sikoa had a proposition for Seth Rollins
Interrupting Michael Cole and Corey Graves on commentary, Sikoa beckoned The Architect to come to the ring. Rollins welcomed the SmackDown talent and asked if they would be talking or fighting. Remembering the Bloodline tactics, Sikoa offered to watch Rollins’s back at SummerSlam so he’d have a fair chance. Rollins admitted that would be beneficial, but he’d need time to think about it. Frustrated, Sikoa urged him to reconsider far sooner.
Jacob Fatu came out, and Sikoa left. Talking smack to his fellow Samoan, Fatu was blindsided by a superkick from Rollins.
Segment review: Solo Sikoa is somehow the most compelling part of this current Bloodline angle.
Chad Gable & Penta defeated Ethan Page & Rusev
Page and Rusev spared no second once the bell rang, slamming Penta to the mat. Escaping a Destroyer, Rusev slammed the luchador into the steel steps. Penta rebounded with a crossbody to the Bulgarian. Gable spammed German Suplexes to Page with a brief interlude by an interfering Rusev. The Olympian athlete pinballed between Page and Rusev. A tope con hilo left Page flat on the outside. Rusev locked in The Accolade in hopes it’d wear down Gable. Penta delivered a Mexican Destroyer to Page. Meanwhile, Gable tapped Rusev out with an Ankle Lock.
Post-match: Gable handed Penta his Intercontinental Championship and shook hands with him.
Match review: Not bad. In fact, match of the night so far. Gable and Penta are sure to have a hot match at SummerSlam. Page and Rusev are putting in some solid background work, too.
Seth Rollins ragebaited Jacob Fatu
Rollins walked around backstage when he bumped into Fatu. He asked if he beat Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, and if he wins the WWE Men’s World Championship, if he’d win the Bloodline too. Fatu responded that he would beat Rollins’s butt.
Paul Heyman promo
In a well-produced promo, Heyman asked how he could sell a Hell in a Cell Match if he’d be unable to advertise its violence. Poising Oba Femi as he had several times before as the biggest ‘next big thing’ since his client Brock Lesnar, Heyman indicated that his rookie year would go down in pure violence at the hands of Lesnar.
Joe Hendry versus Dominik Mysterio
Mysterio stomped a mudhole in Hendry. The Scotsman bounced back, returning the favor with a similar mudhole stomping. When it seemed Hendry had Mysterio under his thumb, Liv Morgan slammed him into the ring post. Danhausen came in to help Hendry, but Morgan slapped him silly, so he left.
Mysterio choked out Hendry, keeping him firmly in the middle of the ring. Hendry fired back with a lariat. Danhausen returned in his coffin-mobile with IYO SKY in the backseat. SKY leapt into action, rocking Morgan with a Shotei Uppercut and a toss into the LED ring apron. While the women brawled and the referee was distracted, Danhausen plummeted Mysterio with a Danhausen Deathdrop. This gave Hendry the pinfall victory over Mysterio.
Match review: The early goings were kind of boring, but the second half was amusing. That Deathdrop was sick. I almost forgot that SKY and Morgan were feuding.
LA Knight aired his frustrations on Seth Rollins versus Roman Reigns at SummerSlam
Knight once again reminded WWE fans of his disdain for wrestlers like Rollins and Reigns always sitting at the top of the card. Declaring himself everything Rollins wanted to be, he preached about how his connection to the fans put him above talent like the two Shield alumni. He humorously compared Jacob Fatu’s theme song to Mortal Kombat and said that he’d slap him back to factory settings.
Segment review: Knight obviously stalled for time here. Time that could’ve gone for a women’s match, maybe? I understand that fans don’t deserve nice things, but it seems like a good opportunity to give your talent TV time.
Jacob Fatu defeated LA Knight
Knight thought he had Fatu worn out at the beginning, but the Samoan Werewolf swung haymakers into the corner. Fatu kept his momentum with a dive that careened Knight into the floor. A Samoan Drop on the apron again kept Knight down. Swinging through the ropes, Knight mounted a comeback by slamming the Bloodline member’s skull into the commentary desk.
A clothesline inched Knight further into full control of the match. Fatu wrenched it back momentarily with a spike to Knight’s spine. Knight slammed Fatu on the mat with a Superplex.
Jimmy Uso sauntered to the ring, stealing Knight’s focus. Solo Sikoa snuck from behind, clobbering his cousin. Fatu decked Sikoa with a dive. Knight countered a Samoan Drop with a BFT. Uso distracted the referee briefly before Royce Keys pummeled him. Jey Uso stampeded behind, hitting superkick after superkick on Keys. Knight dove with a kick to Jey. Fatu gained the pinfall with a Mighty Moonsault for the pinfall.
Post-match: Sikoa beat down Fatu when the Usos obliterated him. Keys evened the odds and collided Fatu to the mat with a Spinebuster. The Usos ganged up on Keys. Knight made a final stand before Fatu and the Usos smashed their hips on his skull; Jey finished him with an Uso Splash. The show went off the air with all three non-Bloodline members writhing as their conquerors held up their 1s.
Match review: Explosive main event, the likes of the Attitude Era, like Steve Austin versus Undertaker. Not the most exciting match, but a good journey between bells before it became a crowded mess. Yet, it seems the stage is potentially being set somewhat early with a WarGames Match come Survivor Series.
Final thoughts
Matches had more time this week than last, with some promos having less bloat. That and some of the in-ring matches were the show’s saving grace. Otherwise, a whole lot of nothing. No true thing stood out on this show, ultimately skippable.
What easily could have fixed this would have been women having matches. There are so many avenues to travel in the division, where the women have far more interesting angles than the men. Lyra Valkyria’s new look and presentation as a heel should’ve been capitalized on. Sol Ruca’s matches could easily give her some reps while adding to her shine as WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion. What is Becky Lynch even doing? She loves helping in times like these, doesn’t she? What about talents like Candice LeRae, Ivy Nile, or Jordynne Grace, who haven’t had a match on the main roster in ages? I mean, at least LeRae gets time on TV with that god-awful Johnny Gargano angle.
The women’s roster in WWE deserves far more than what they’re given. With ongoing rumors about Bayley’s WWE status, it may be pertinent to shine up the field before it grows sparse and uninspired by a lackluster creative team and booker who seem less and less like they know what they’re doing anymore.
