Witcher 4 Official Release Date Update Is Music To Our Ears

The Witcher 4 is on the way relatively soon, and the latest update on the development front is good news for fans.

The Witcher 4 is definitely one of the more exciting projects coming down the pipeline, with CD Projekt Red taking some genuinely big decisions about what they want to do with the beloved series next. Ciri is taking on the role of protagonist this time around, though we are yet to find out exactly what that means for our boy Geralt.

At the same time, it has been more than ten years since the release of the last entry, and to see it return with all of the amazing technology we now have available, should be pretty incredible. That said, the realities of game development mean that it seemingly takes longer than ever to produce a game as ambitious as this one, but the latest update on that front should prove to be a positive one for fans.

Over on Reddit, one member of the community shared a post which confirms exactly how many staff members developer CD Projekt Red currently has working on The Witcher 4. As you might expect, it has been steadily rising, to where it has now risen to more than 500 people actively contributing to the project full-time.

It's not just the number of people working on the project that has given the fans confidence, but the fact that CDPR is being so transparent. The OP put forward their belief that the game is likely coming in 2028, and that seems like a fairly reasonable end point for what is a major project.

Other fans weighed in with their own thoughts, with one saying, "CDPR still seems very confident in its ambitious plan to deliver 2 witcher games within roughly 6 years from witcher 4 launch. Keep in mind, this roadmap was first announced back in 2022, so the fact that they're still reaffirming it this deep into development is encouraging."

While another added, "Aiming for a early 2027 date for SotP and Christmas season for W4 makes a lot of sense from a business point of view, I think? Get the hype train going properly and then release in the rainy gift-giving season... But I also feel like delays are VERY possible."

The comments are right that the first big step in this process is undoubtedly the release of the Songs of the Past DLC for The Witcher 3. That is aiming to bridge the narrative gap between the last game and the sequel, and it could give us a final resolution to our journey with Geralt, though I'm personally hoping he won't be a character who gets the tragic death treatment.
