LaVar Ball made a name for himself in the mid-2010s for aggressively promoting his sons before they entered the NBA. He has since been a reality TV star and entrepreneur who continues to make sports media appearances and bold predictions. The 58-year old is also the co-founder and chief executive officer of Big Baller Brand.
The sports apparel company became known for selling independent signature basketball shoes and clothing with high price tags. However, it achieved viral notoriety and drew media attention and debate across the sports world. Ball claimed that he won’t sell his company even for $2 billion and shared his reasons.

“Everybody was like, ‘Hey, big baller, do your thing and go public,'” Ball said. “I said, ‘No, I ain’t doing that.’ I understand I can be a billionaire overnight if I go public. The brand is good because I’m not in the red and I don’t have no investors.
“If they offer me $2 billion tomorrow, I’ll be like for triple B’s, ‘No, I’m cool.’ And folks be like, ‘You stupid of all.’ This is how you know your brand is good. I can take a $3 shirt and put Triple B’s on it. Now it’s a $60 shirt.”
When did LaVar Ball launch Big Baller Brand?
Ball and his wife, Tina, launched Big Baller Brand in 2016 and co-founded it with Alan Foster. It quickly grabbed attention when it released Lonzo’s ZO2 sneakers in May 2017, pricing them at $495. The brand scrapped the original design and updated it to the ZO2 Prime Remix four months later. It released its follow-up model in October 2018 at $200.
Lonzo and LaMelo have since moved on to other major sneaker endorsements. However, the company remains in business, and Ball manages its day-to-day operations.
