Whoopi Goldberg is doing something major—and her daughter, Alexandrea “Alex” Martin Dean, is cheering her on.
On July 13, The View star attended the opening night of The Whoopi Monologues, the iconic one-woman play she debuted in 1984. Now, it’s been reimagined as an ensemble show featuring Kerry Washington, Danielle Pinnock, and more. Performances will take place at Lincoln Center's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater in New York City through August 30, 2026.
When Whoopi walked the red carpet for opening night, Alex, whom she shares with ex-husband Alvin Martin, was right by her side. As the two posed for the cameras, which E! News later posted on Instagram, Alex looked elated to see her mom celebrate.
Fans couldn’t help but notice one thing about the moment.
“They both have that beautiful smile 🥹,” one person wrote in the comments. “Same exact smile ❤️,” another agreed. “Her daughter? Looks like her mom,” a different follower added.
While Whoopi prefers to keep her life away from the cameras, she and Alex, who herself has two daughters, a son, and two granddaughters, have come together publicly for multiple occasions.
The last time fans saw Whoopi and Alex together was in March 2025, when they attended the Oscars. At the time, Whoopi reflected on when Alex was with her when she won the 1991 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Ghost.
“I brought my kid,” she said, according to People. “And now she's with me again!”
Hopefully it won’t be long before we see Whoopi and Alex reunite!
