AUSTIN (KXAN) — The road to White Collar Fight Night is officially underway as participants reported for day one of training, transitioning from professionals to amateur boxers for one night.
For three months, founders, executives, engineers and other professionals across Central Texas will train under experienced boxing coaches before stepping into the right for a White Collar Fight Night on Oct. 17 at Fair Market. The event combines amateur boxing with a networking gala, giving competitors the opportunity put their skills to the test after 12 weeks of training.
“It’s a way for people that have always wanted to box, that have never known how or where to start to come in and do it,” White Collar Fight Night founder Seth Zanutto said. “We give you a concrete start and end date with something to work towards and at the end you get to go to a sick party where your friends, your family, and your coworkers get to watch you fight.”
Zanutto launched the event with the goal of making boxing more approachable while creating a unique social experience for professionals from different industries and backgrounds.
“I’m a program manager for Generator International VC fund, helping grow, scale and fundraise for startups,” fight Destin Bell George said. “I got the opportunity from somebody telling me about a place where some white collar nerds can punch each other in the face…I figured, I’m a nerd in tech. I could punch really hard and I can dodge a punch from time to time. So I figured it’d be a new opportunity for me to do something challenging and difficult.”
“I thought that putting on a White Collar Fight Night…where we take a bunch of people that have never boxed before, we train them, and then we throw kind of a big, fancy black-tie party would be an awesome way to remove barriers to entry for the sport.” Zanutto said.
At the end of their 12 week training, participants will be ready for Fight Night on Oct. 17 at Fair Market.
