Retirement typically means slowing down and taking it easy for most people, but not Jason Kelce. The NFL star kickstarted a 30-pound weight-loss journey soon after retirement, but he shared the mental challenges that accompanied his fitness journey.

Kelce announced his official retirement on March 4, 2024, bidding goodbye to a career that was nothing short of remarkable. Within a year of retiring, Kelce went on a self-discovery and transformation journey, losing over 30 pounds and dropping to 270 pounds. He explained how he wanted to change his lifestyle after retiring, feeling free from having to maintain a high-calorie diet any longer.

However, he admitted that keeping his body fit remains a challenge after a hyper-focused career in football.

“It’s getting bad. I don’t know if it’s the moment you retire mentally; your body retires too, physically, because I am just [struggling]. I’m trying to lift weights. I keep straining muscles,” he shared in May 2025 on his podcast, as per People magazine.

His method was simple- track his calories using an app, maintain protein intake, and follow a good routine. This included heavy compound lifts, hypertrophy blocks to build muscle, bodybuilding exercises, and joint-friendly conditioning.

According to Men’s Health, Kelce tweaked his workout routine to fit into his current post-retirement lifestyle. He reduced the intensity of his deadlifts, scaled back Olympic lifts, and took to running on grass instead of asphalt to reduce impact.

From leading the Eagles into their first Super Bowl title to becoming one of the most respected center of NFL, Kelce has built a legacy to be remembered.

The legacy that Jason Kelce has left behind

Kelce will always be remembered for his historic Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl LII Championship win in 2018, when he helped the team defeat the New England Patriots 41-33, winning the Philadelphia Eagles their first-ever Super Bowl.

However, he has enjoyed several big moments in his career, which include:

2017 – Earning his First-Time All-Pro honor, becoming one of the most dominant offensive linemen in his league.

2018 – His iconic Super Bowl parade speed after defeating the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII.

2018-2023 – He won multiple First-Team All-Pro Honors across five seasons

2022 – He was recognized as one of the elite centers in the NFL

2025 – Kelce was named a Pro Football Hall of Fame Semi-finalist
