The former commander-in-chief may end up in the military education system
Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi and former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrii Hnatov will not be involved in operational activities following their resignations, an informed source told RBC-Ukraine.
“They definitely will not be involved in operational activities. They have the knowledge and expertise, so they will contribute intellectually and in terms of strategic vision. Syrskyi may take a role in the military education system — but we’ll see,” the source said.
General Ihor Skybiuk will become the new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He has significant combat experience and previously served alongside the newly appointed Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi.
On July 21, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved a decision to change the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, appointing Mykhailo Drapatyi as Commander-in-Chief.
This personnel decision was preceded by mass protests in Kyiv and many other cities that erupted following the dismissal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
Zelenskyy has already outlined a list of priority tasks for the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
