In the midst of another dismal season, the Colorado Rockies appear to have a star in catcher Hunter Goodman.
Entering Tuesday, Goodman leads all MLB catchers with 30 home runs and has driven in 56 RBI with an OPS of .881 in 93 games. Since being called up by the Rockies in the 2023 season, Goodman is a two-time All-Star (2025, 2026) and won the Silver Slugger award last year.
The 26-year-old is also two days removed from stringing together his first career three-home-run game against the Cincinnati Reds.
However, things in Colorado have not been pretty to say the least over the last several seasons. The Rockies have finished in last place in the NL West for the last three years and appear well on their way to a fourth straight last place finish, having the worst record in the National League at 40-62.
With the Rockies going nowhere in 2026, it certainly begs the question if the ballclub is open to moving some of their young players, including the aforementioned Goodman. This MLB Insider, though, doesn't think the Rockies are quite ready yet to move on from their catcher.
In a July 21 article for The Athletic, Ken Rosenthal wrote that any trade for Goodman would have to overwhelm the Rockies.
Rosenthal also reported that a contract extension for the backstop is a possibility. Goodman is under team control through 2029. However, if the Rockies continue to struggle over the course of the next couple of seasons, that certainly raises the question of whether or not they should trade the backstop.

Colorado has a slew of talented players in Kyle Karros, TJ Rumfield and Cole Carrigg who they hope can play a big part in their future.
While there are plenty of teams across the major leagues that would like to upgrade their catcher position, it does not seem likely that the Rockies are open to moving Goodman at the moment.
