The Detroit Lions' offense should return as one of the top groups in the NFL in 2026, but the unit could elevate to a new level with a breakout from second-year receiver Isaac TeSlaa.
TeSlaa, a third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Lions, showed flashes of excellence during his rookie season, converting 16 of his catches into six touchdowns, along with 239 receiving yards. The 24-year-old posted these numbers while garnering 26 targets and playing just 312 passing snaps.
With Kalif Raymond leaving Detroit for the Chicago Bears in free agency, TeSlaa will take over as the full-time No. 3 receiver and could be the secret weapon that takes the Lions' offense to new heights.
TeSlaa Among Top Secret Weapons Across the NFL
In an article detailing some under-the-radar playmakers who could make legitimate impacts on their respective teams in 2026, Athlon Sports' Luke Easterling listed TeSlaa as a potential secret weapon for the Lions.
"Detroit’s offense is loaded with dynamic playmakers, but TeSlaa proved as a rookie last season just how valuable he can be when the ball comes his way. Despite catching just 16 passes all year long, TeSlaa turned six of them into touchdowns, averaging just shy of 15 yards per reception on the year," Easterling wrote.
Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Sam LaPorta will receive a majority of the touches on Detroit's offense, but don't be surprised when TeSlaa establishes himself as a valuable playmaker.
TeSlaa's 6-foot-4 frame and athleticism make him an explosive red-zone and jump-ball threat. According to Pro Football Focus, five of TeSlaa's six touchdowns last season came from 10-19 yards, and the Arkansas product also posted a 128.6 passer rating when targeted from that range.
Though TeSlaa still needs to show consistency as a top receiver for the Lions, there's no denying that he has the skill set and promise to be a dynamic force on Drew Petzing's offense. Due to the presence of Gibbs, St. Brown, Williams, and LaPorta, TeSlaa may not receive enough opportunities to post earth-shattering numbers. However, the exhilarating young receiver should still make some noise in 2026 and add more juice to the Lions' passing attack.
