Messi is expected to miss Inter Miami's next two MLS regular-season matches, along with the 2026 MLS All-Star Game, as part of a recommended 21-day rest period established by FIFA and FIFPRO following his involvement in Argentina's run to the World Cup final.
The Argentine captain, along with Inter Miami teammate Rodrigo De Paul, will take an extended break to recover after the tournament.
Messi is expected to miss the following matches:
- Wednesday, July 22: Chicago Fire FC
- Saturday, July 25: CF Montréal
- Wednesday, July 29: MLS All-Star Game vs. the Liga MX All-Stars in Charlotte
His earliest possible return would be on August 1 against the Columbus Crew, although his availability will depend on how much of the recommended 21-day recovery period he uses.
FIFA and FIFPRO introduced the recommended 21-day post-tournament rest period to reduce injury risk and physical workload.
Since Messi's absence falls within this recovery window, the 39-year-old will not face any sanctions or suspensions for missing the All-Star Game.

After the loss to Spain, the former Barcelona star reflected on the tournament and the time he spent with the Argentina squad in a heartfelt social media message.
