Metro riders in Washington DC's Maryland suburbs are already in the midst of a two-month shutdown of several stations on the Red Line, and now more shutdowns have been announced.
On the heels of the closure between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights, which began after the Fourth of July holiday and will continue through Labor Day, WMATA on Monday said more construction is scheduled on other lines.

What DC area Metro lines will be affected by upcoming shutdowns?
Sept. 5 - 7 — Hyattsville Crossing to Greenbelt will be closed on the Green/Yellow Line for train control room renewal.
Sept. 19-20, 26-27 — Pentagon to L'Enfant Plaza will be closed on the Green/Yellow Line for track rehabilitation.
Oct. 17-18 — Foggy Bottom to Pentagon/Court House on the Orange/Silver/Blue lines will be shut down for track rehabilitation.
Dec. 16-30 — U St. to Georgia Ave-Petworth on the Green/Yellow Line will single track for restraining-rail removal.
February 2027 — Rhode Island to Silver Spring on the Red Line will close for a weekend for train control room replacement.
Late Spring 2027 — Silver Spring to Forest Glen on the Red Line will single track for five weekends as crews perform maintenance on the track and switch machine.
July 2027 — Georgia Ave-Petworth to Hyattsville Crossing closes for an extended stretch for the replacement of the Fort Totten train control room.
July 2027 — Twinbrook to Shady Grove on the Red Line will have an extended shutdown for ties and bridge rehab.
July to November 2027 — West Falls Church Yard on the Orange Line closes for yard rehabilitation.
August 2027 — Union Station to Rhode Island on the Red Line will have an extended shutdown to replace interlocking ties.
August 2027 — King Street to Franconia-Springfield on the Blue/Yellow Line will close for four days for interlocking tie replacement.
December 2027 — Foggy Bottom to Arlington Cemetery/Clarendon on the Orange, Gray and Blue lines will have an extended shutdown for track rehabilitation that will "require more time than is available during routine overnight maintenance windows."
"As ridership patterns continue to evolve and weekend ridership grows across the system, Metro is adapting its approach to scheduling service adjustments. These refinements are designed to better balance the needs of customers with the imperative to maintain and modernize critical infrastructure, while minimizing disruption and improving the efficiency of maintenance and capital improvement activities," Metro says.
