Overnight closures are coming to lanes headed north on Interstate 5 near Port of Tacoma Road from Monday to Friday.
The two left-hand lanes of Interstate-5 northbound and southbound between 20th Street Drive East and Exit 137 are scheduled for closures overnight.
According to a City of Fife alert, Monday to Thursday will see the two left lanes northbound close from 7 p.m. to 4:15 a.m. the next morning. On Friday, the far-left HOV lane will close from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m., with the second left lane closing from 8 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.
“Exits 136, 136A, and 136B will remain open throughout these closures,” the news release states.
The closures are a part of the Port of Tacoma Road Phase 2A project. Intended to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety on I-5 at Port of Tacoma Road, the project will construct a new bridge over Interstate 5 and expand the Port of Tacoma Road and 34th Avenue East interchanges for more cars.
As previously reported by The News Tribune, the project will cost $64.6 million, with construction expected to finish by July 2029.
