Analyst Kyle Brandt defended the young Giants running back during a recent episode of Get Up, saying:
“The Giants have a dog. And I don’t mean like he’s got that ‘dog’ in him. He’s like an actual human Labrador. When you come home, and the dog has torn up the pillow and peed on the ground, don’t you say, ‘Why did you do that?’ ‘Because I’m a dog and I’m always going to do that.’
“That’s not his first backflip. That’s not his last backflip. And I’m not going to sit here, and we’re not going to pearl-clutch through the Cam Skattebo era.”
Brandt also said the Giants’ star, Skattebo, loves the spotlight and is simply being himself. He acknowledged that the stunt was irresponsible, saying:
“I know it’s irresponsible. He is irresponsible, alright? It was also at Fanatics Fest. Have you ever been to that thing? There’s nobody up on stage splitting the atom, okay? It’s fun, it’s a party, and this is not the last time we’re going to do this. By the way, this is a fourth-round draft pick running back. This is not the linchpin of the organization.”
“This is not Saquon (Barkley). He’s going to be here for a few years. We’re going to have a few laughs, going to have a few touchdowns, and then we’re going to miss him. So let’s not ruin it while he’s here.”
While some analysts have called the young player an “idiot” and an “imbecile,” Brandt has offered a different perspective on the situation.
It will be interesting to see how the NFL world reacts to the Giants running back’s actions. Skattebo made a name for himself during his rookie season, posting an impact score of 70.9, which ranked 40th among running backs in the league according to PFN’s RB Impact Metric.
Skattebo is set to enter the 2026 season and is expected to be the Giants’ top running back. That said, fans are hoping he stays healthy and avoids taking unnecessary risks during his recovery.
