Former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Jalen Hurts landed at No. 56 on this year’s NFL Top 100 list, surprising plenty of fans due to how he’s performed for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Many believe that despite the Eagles not successfully returning to the Super Bowl to defend their championship, Hurts still played well enough to deserve a higher spot. However, the list is voted on by NFL players, so their votes determined his spot.
His former teammate, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, dropped a bold remark about Hurts’ spot, suggesting it should’ve been much, much higher.
“Should be No. 1! IMO!” Gardner-Johnson wrote in an X message sharing the NFL’s post.
Gardner-Johnson became a member of the Buffalo Bills this past offseason, so he’ll join forces with a top-tier quarterback in Josh Allen. One has to wonder if he realizes how this could look on the surface, as he’s supporting another QB besides the one on his new team.

“chill bro, it’s Josh. back your guy. you are a Bill, not an Eagle,” a commenter replied to Gardner-Johnson on X.
Another said, “Lmao bro stop it u literally are on the same team with somebody way better than him.”
Others wrote, “doesn’t know he plays with Josh Allen and Deone Walker,” and “Ummm you forgot who your new QB is?.”
Last season, Jalen Hurts threw for 3,244 passing yards with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also ran for 421 yards and eight touchdowns, with many coming courtesy of the infamous “Tush Push” that Philly often uses at the goal line.
Hurts ranked 12th among starting quarterbacks for rating with a 98.5, with stars such as Dak Prescott, Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, and Josh Allen all ranked above him. Drake Maye led all players last season with his 113.5 rating, with Stafford second at a 109.2 rating.
And some criticized Hurts for the team’s lack of repeat success in 2025-26, as the Eagles reached the postseason, then were promptly defeated in the first round of the NFC Wild Card Playoffs at home. They’ve since traded away receiver AJ Brown to the New England Patriots and drafted a rookie received they’re hopeful will help them in Makai Lemon.
Gardner-Johnson played on the Eagles in 2022 and then returned in 2024, which was the recent Super Bowl-winning season. So he saw Hurts up close and personal, as well as Saquon Barkley, seeming to lend to why he would support those former teammates.
That said, he’s in a new environment now, and one that many still believe has a good shot to represent the AFC in the 2027 Super Bowl. In addition to having veteran quarterback Josh Allen hungry to get there, the Bills added former Chicago Bears receiver D.J. Moore as a new weapon for some explosive connections down the field.
The Bills are Gardner-Johnson’s seventh team since he joined the NFL in 2019. However, he never truly played for the Baltimore Ravens and only appeared in three games for the Houston Texans.
It’s entirely possible that he was trolling fans with his Hurts tweet, or campaigning for a spot on the Eagles roster should he need to rejoin the team in the future.
