Sonic the Hedgehog is celebrating his 35th anniversary this summer, and Wendy’s is kicking off the occasion by featuring the anthropomorphic video game mascot in its Kids’ Meals.
The promotion, which began on July 20, gives every Kids’ Meal one of seven character card cases. Each case holds a distinct set of five trading cards, with thirty-five cards completing the whole lineup.
Sonic leads the roster, joined by heroes Amy Rose and Miles ‘Tails’ Prower. Knuckles the Echidna and Silver the Hedgehog serve as allies while Shadow the Hedgehog and Rouge the Bat round out the villain side.
Beneath the cards sits a standard Wendy’s Kids’ Meal. Customers can pick a main from the two-piece chicken tenders, the four-piece nuggets, a hamburger, or a cheeseburger, along with a side of Jr. Hot & Crispy Fries or the apple bites and a kid’s drink.
The specific case that ends up in the bag is random, meaning fans chasing all seven would require multiple visits before the offer wraps up.
Britain received the limited edition Kids’ Meal earlier in the summer, and the U.S. version features the same seven cases and 35 cards over from that run.
The promotion doesn’t shy away from tapping into the nostalgia and excitement of Sonic’s 35th anniversary, giving young fans (and adult collectors) a reason to keep coming back. With cases distributed arbitrarily, the thrill of course lies in the chase, trading duplicates or hunting for favorites before the cards disappear from bags.
The deal runs through mid-September at participating U.S. restaurants, as well as the Wendy’s app and Wendy’s website.
