TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tropical Storm watches and warnings remain in effect for parts of the northern Gulf Coast as Tropical Storm Bertha continues to move northwest, the National Hurricane Center announced Tuesday.
Located about 70 miles south-southwest of Panama City, Florida, Bertha is moving toward the northwest at about 3 mph.
NOAA Hurricane Hunters discovered that the storm has strengthened. Its maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph.
A slow northwestward to west-northwestward motion is expected today before a turn westward by the middle part of the week, NHC said.
Bertha is expected to move near or along the northern Gulf Coast over the next several days.
According to the NHC, slight strengthening is possible today before it weakens through the middle of the week.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for:
- Bay/Gulf County Line in Florida to the Terrebonne/Lafourche Parish Line in Louisiana
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for:
- West of the Terrebonne/Lafourche Parish Line to the Vermilion/Cameron Parish Line
- Metropolitan New Orleans, Lake Pontchartrain, and Lake Maurepas
According to the NHC, tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning area along the northern Gulf Coast by late Tuesday into Wednesday.
