And the $20 tickets go to a good cause, supporting the Friends of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC).

Fancy jam bands? How about skiing? (It’s a silly question, we know—odds are good that if you like one, you probably like the other).

You might want to mosey on over to the Friends of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) website, where, from now until July 26, you can pay $20 and enter a raffle with quite the grand prize: a day of skiing at Loveland Ski Area, Colorado, with Bill Nershi, a co-founder of The String Cheese Incident.

The grand prize also includes four Loveland lift tickets, two nights of lodging, two pairs of Icelantic Skis, two Rab Khroma Latok kits, one pair of SCARPA ski boots, and one pair of SCARPA shoes. All the gear is subject to size, color, and availability.

Proceeds from the raffle go towards the Friends of the CAIC, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the titular organization, which creates winter avalanche forecasts for skiers and other backcountry users across Colorado.

If you’ve ever been friends with a ski or raft guide—or been one yourself—you almost certainly know The String Ski Incident.

Nershi and the other members of the band met as ski bums in Crested Butte, Colorado, and, with their jam band tunes, went on to create the unofficial soundtrack for mountain towns across the American West, as well as continuing the free-wheeling lineage established by the Grateful Dead.

“I would say the majority of the stuff I write is directly influenced by my outdoor experiences. I’ve written songs about waiting for the snow to fall, getting ready for a ski season,” Nershi told Elevation Outdoors.

And he doesn’t just talk the talk. Years ago, POWDER attended a String Cheese Incident show in Telluride, Colorado, reporting that Nershi managed the whole two-hour set wearing ski boots

Beyond the upcoming ski day with a lucky winner, Nershi and the band are on the road right now for the Just Keep Spinning tour, with stops in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Lake Tahoe later this week.

Judge raises concerns over evidence in Reflecting Pool vandalism case

A D.C. judge has lambasted Donald Trump’s Justice Department goons over their efforts to blame someone else for the mess his administration has made of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Justice Todd E. Edelman, an Obama appointee, warned U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro, 75, on Monday that the Trump administration is “operating at its own peril” in the way it has handled its case against David Hearn, 67, a former...
