Wes Streeting made an important pledge to Ukrainians
Wes Streeting has been appointed UK Defense Secretary in the government of the new Prime Minister Andy Burnham. He immediately outlined his position on Ukraine, according to a statement from Andy Burnham's office.
Wes Streeting publicly emphasized that the key priority of the new UK government is ensuring the country's security.
As the defense secretary noted, it is an honor for him to hold such an important position.
"We'll ensure our armed forces have the resources they need and stand steadfast alongside our international allies, especially Ukraine," Streeting emphasized.
It is worth noting that the new British prime minister, Andy Burnham, is also often described as one of Ukraine's most devoted supporters in British politics.
Who is Wes Streeting, Britain's new defense secretary?
He decided to devote his life to public and political activity while still at university.
From 2008 to 2010, Streeting headed the National Union of Students and later worked on education issues at the LGBT charity Stonewall.
He was also a local councillor in the London Borough of Redbridge.
In 2015, Streeting won a parliamentary election for the first time in the Ilford North constituency. Two years later, he won again in his constituency despite the Labour Party's overall defeat.
In 2020, the politician became shadow junior minister for schools. A year later, he joined Keir Starmer's shadow cabinet, taking charge of the newly created child poverty brief.
In November 2021, Streeting was appointed shadow health and social care secretary.
From July 2024 to May 2026, he served as health and social care secretary in Starmer's Labour government.
Wes Streeting is currently 43 years old.
