Christmas Eve is about to be a big night for Hallmark Channel favorite Tyler Hynes.
PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that the actor is starring in The Nights Before Christmas, which will debut later this year as part of the network’s annual Countdown to Christmas. And the movie, which also stars Chesapeake Shores alum Laci J Mailey, shares a little in common with the 1993 Bill Murray classic, Groundhog Day.
“Marty’s about to meet the love of his life... over and over again,” the voiceover says in the exclusive trailer for the new Christmas movie. Or, as Marty (Hynes) himself says, “I’m caught in a time loop.”
According to the film’s official synopsis, “One Christmas Eve, Marty, whose life is in a bit of a rut, finds himself wishing he had more time. Thanks to some holiday magic, he awakes the next morning to discover it’s Christmas Eve — again. Confused at first, Marty learns to embrace his new normal. ... But when Marty meets Chloe (Laci J Mailey), a newly out-of-work journalist having a bad day, he falls hard for her. The only problem is that when Christmas Eve morning comes once again, she doesn’t know who he is.
“As the Christmas Eves repeat themselves, Marty is on a mission to keep trying to win her over and, in the process, figure out what he needs to do to finally make his way to Christmas Day — hopefully, with Chloe by his side.”
In the trailer, one of Marty’s confidants asks, “When does this loop back to the beginning?” Standing with a pool cue in his hand, he looks at his watch and says, “Six seconds.”
One scene shows Marty falling for Chloe as they ride the New York City subway. “I want to spend a second day with you,” he yearns.
Later, we see Marty and Chloe meeting for the first time — again. “Have we met before?” she asks him.
“I just have one of those faces,” he responds.
The Nights Before Christmas marks Hynes’ 28th Hallmark movie and 14th Christmas movie for the network (including his cameo in last year’s Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story). To celebrate, Hallmark is releasing a Tyler Hynes ornament, complete with a candy cane in his ear and tiny brass charms to represent his beloved dog Rusty James and his annual Boot Shot Tradition.
With Christmas in July in full swing, Hallmark is on a tear announcing their year-end holiday plans. PEOPLE exclusively debuted the trailers for Holiday Ever After: A Disney World Wish Come True, starring Lacey Chabert and Travis Van Winkle, and A Grand Biltmore Christmas, starring Holland Roden, Niall Matter and (Groundhog Day alum) Andie MacDowell last week, as well as an exclusive clip of Hynes being fought over by his castmates from Three Wisest Men and The Groomsmen on Christmas at Sea, the finale for which airs on Wednesday, July 22, on Hallmark+.
