Two Wichita brothers were sentenced Monday to prison for crimes related to a drug trafficking ring that was responsible for moving fentanyl into Kansas.
According to a news release from the Department of Justice, Raashad Robinson, 30, and Eddie Robinson, 31, will serve time after they helped move fentanyl from Arizona to Kansas for distribution in Wichita.
Raashad Robinson, according to court documents, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy in relation to the scheme. He was sentenced to a 25-year prison term.
Eddie Robinson pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. He is scheduled to serve a 10-year prison term.
According to the DOJ and court documents, Raashad Robinson drove from Kansas to Arizona five times in 2024 to obtain fentanyl for distribution in Wichita. On his way back to Kansas in September of that year, he was pulled over by law enforcement officers in Texas.
During the stop, officers found fentanyl powder and pills during a search of the vehicle Robinson was driving.
“Raashad Robinson and Eddie Robinson saw selling drugs as a way to make easy money,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan Kriegshauser in a statement. “When Raashad Robinson decided to drive thousands of miles between Wichita and Phoenix to transport fentanyl, he didn’t know he was actually on the road to federal prison.”
Along with the Robinson brothers, a federal grand jury also indicted six others in relation to the drug trafficking ring.
Wichita residents Martel Costello, 30, Jevante Oliver, 34, and Hassan Smith, 22, all pled guilty to crimes relating to the drug ring and are awaiting sentencing. Two others from Arizona and one man from Missouri also pleaded guilty and are waiting for sentences to be handed down.
The Wichita Police Department investigated the drug ring, according to the news release.
