Jack Dorsey Launches Buzz

Salesforce spent $27.7 billion to acquire Slack back in 2021. Microsoft spent $7.5 billion to acquire GitHub in 2018. Both of those acquisitions are now being targeted by Dorsey’s latest venture launched this week.

Buzz helps connect humans and AI agents in the same conversations, creating a group chat platform that rivals Slack and GitHub, according to a report from TechCrunch.

"Your people, your agents, your project – all in one place," the Buzz website reads.

The Buzz platform is open source, allowing developers to make customized workflows for their team, enabling the building and deploying of new features.

"We’re launch BUZZ! A new groupchat platform for teams of people and agents of all sizes, built to reduce our dependency on Slack and Github. Model-agnostic, decentralized, self-sovereign, and open source," Dorsey announced in a tweet.

Buzz was built by Block Inc XYZ, the fintech that owns Square and Cash App and counts Dorsey as co-founder and CEO.

As more companies rely on AI agents, Buzz could be able to win over new customers as the platform was built with this growth in mind.

"Buzz’s utility is that it merges several different workflows into one workspace," TechCrunch said.

The Buzz app is available for macOS, Windows and Linux, according to the report.

Bad News for Salesforce?

A new competitor for Slack could be bad news for Salesforce, especially given the size of its previous acquisition of the company.

According to Slack, the company has over 200,000 paid customers and is used by 77 of the Fortune 100 companies.

The launch of Buzz could add insult to injury for Salesforce as the company is already looking for new areas of growth to offset customer changes.

KeyBanc analyst Jackson Ader recently downgraded Salesforce stock from Overweight to Sector Weight. The analyst sees limited signs of growth for the company.

Ader said it is "difficult to find evidence" of future upside for the company and no reason to support the stock other than the lower valuation after the recent selloff.

The analyst called recent quarterly results disappointing.

As companies adjust to AI agents being utilized, Salesforce and Slack may need to work on making sure their platform can fend off competition like Buzz or risk having analysts see even more disappointing results.

Salesforce Stock Price Action

Salesforce stock is down 3.6% to $163.90 on Wednesday versus a 52-week trading range of $146.32 to $274.00. Salesforce shares are down 35.4% year-to-date in 2026. Over the last five years, the stock is down 34%.

Billionaire Jeff Bezos called Amazon’s customer service to prove a point but waited in silence for more than 10 minutes — ‘It was really long’

Numbers can tell a story. Amazon (AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos believed they could also tell the wrong one. When customer complaints didn’t match what his team’s reports were saying, he decided there was only one way to settle the debate. Speaking on the Lex Fridman Podcast in December 2023, Bezos recalled an early Amazon meeting where executives revie...
