Tucker Carlson claims Trump 'shut down' Butler probe — calls Ted Cruz 'a murderer' in wild interview

Tucker Carlson claimed President Donald Trump “shut down” the investigation into the Butler, Pennsylvania, assassination attempt on the commander in chief, and accused Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) of being a “murderer” in a new interview with Stephen A. Smith.

Carlson bashed two of his favorite targets during an episode of Smith’s Straight Shooter podcast, which will air on SiriusXM and hit podcast apps later in the day.

He told Smith he repeatedly asked FBI officials for info on Thomas Crooks — the gunman who shot Trump and killed rally attendee Corey Comperatore in 2024 — but was told the president closed down the probe.

“I can’t think of a non-sinister reason for Trump to shut down an investigation into his own attempted murder,” Carlson said.

He told Smith:

I know that Trump shut down the investigation into the Butler shooting. It doesn’t make any sense.

There’s a lot of material that the FBI gathered into Thomas Crooks—who he was talking to on his burner phone, who he was talking to online, who he trained with at the range. They have tape of that. They’ve not released any of it.

And I pushed them really hard. The FBI director, the deputy director, the guy in charge of the investigation — I talked to them all. Why can’t we see this information? And they wouldn’t answer the question.

Turns out Trump told them not to release it, to shut down the investigation.

“He’s a lone gunman. He’s dead. We don’t need to know anymore.”

Okay, then why can’t I see the information that you gathered? Did he have contact with law enforcement before the shooting? Why can’t you answer that question?

Instead, they yelled at me and called me names. The Trump people did.

Carlson’s accusation comes a month after he claimed a “terrified” and “hysterical” Dan Bongino told him Trump ended the probe, a claim the former FBI deputy director vehemently denied.

And earlier this month, Comperatore’s widow told NewsNation she believed the government was behind the shooting.

The FBI concluded last year that Crooks acted alone.

As for Cruz, Carlson dodged a question about having interviewed controversial figures like Nick Fuentes — by pointing to Cruz.

“No one is like ‘I can’t believe you’re sitting with that wacko extremist, Ted Cruz, who’s literally called for murdering people,'” Carlson said.

Carlson continued:

And by the way, has helped murder people. He’s a United States senator. He’s not a podcaster. He votes for things. He appropriates money. That guy has blood on his hands, the blood of countless innocents, but it’s totally cool to sit with him.

How does that work? I don’t understand. Not one person has ever said, “I can’t believe you sat across from Ted Cruz. He’s a murderer.” Which, it’s true, but because we’re so controlled. So brainwashed.

Smith then asked if he was really calling Cruz a murderer.

“Well, it’s true,” Carlson said. “Ted Cruz is calling for the killing of innocents and funding it.”

Watch above.
