Houthis declared naval blockade against Saudi Arabia amid Iran war
Trump brushes off Houthis as they vow Red Sea blockade

The Houthis are one of several Iran-backed proxy groups in the Middle East and are a leading player in the ongoing Yemeni Civil War.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday appeared unconcerned by the entry of the Houthis into the wider Iran war and their vow to blockade the entrance to the Red Sea.

The Houthis are one of several Iran-backed proxy groups in the Middle East and are a leading player in the ongoing Yemeni Civil War.

The group previously shut down most commercial traffic through the Bab al-Mandeb waterway, leading the Trump administration to organize strikes on their territory last year. The group announced a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia earlier this week.

The Houthis control much of western and northern Yemen, including most of the Red Sea coast. Prior interdiction operations have seen them hijack or sink commercial ships moving through the Bab al-Mandeb, which connects the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
