The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Tuesday announced that the latest roundup of illegal aliens by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had brought in convicted murderers and pedophiles.
The roundup is part of DHS's "Worst of the Worst" initiative, which aims to highlight the criminal nature of many illegal aliens deported under the administration.
"The brave men and women of ICE law enforcement work 24/7 to remove the worst of the worst from our communities," Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement. "Just yesterday, ICE arrested murderers, pedophiles, violent assailants, and other public safety threats. Nearly 70% of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens who have either been convicted or charged with a crime in the United States."
President Donald Trump has sought to deport as many as 22 million illegal aliens. As of late June, the administration had deported nearly 1 million illegal aliens and tracked roughly 2 million more self-deportations.
Topping the Tuesday roundup was Cornelio Arrellano-Hernandez of Mexico, who was convicted of first-degree murder.
Yaney Garcia-Ozuna of Mexico was convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14.
Long Quoc Van Nguyen of Vietnam was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing bodily injury and two counts of driving under the influence.
Ebrima Sanneh of Gambia was convicted of willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer, carrying a concealed weapon, and attempting cocaine and meth trafficking.
Cheikh Assane Diagne of Senegal was convicted for carrying a handgun and trespassing.
