Foden excited to work under Maresca

After signing a new four-year deal with Man City, Phil Foden is relishing the opportunity to get his career back on track - under the guidance of Enzo Maresca.

“So excited. Obviously, I’ve had Enzo before. When we had him in the Treble season, he was brilliant,” Foden said.

“His attention to detail, the small things that make a big difference, and even training with him at the moment, you can tell how good of a coach he is.

“I’m really excited to play under him and see where it goes.

“He’s so nice. He’s down to earth. He’s someone that you can go to and talk about anything to him, and he would help you out.

“Even if you want to work on things to get better, he’ll do one-on-one sessions with you after training.

“And that’s something he did with me as well when he was here. I did small finishing drills with him and things like that, and he really grew my game.

“So, like I said, I’m looking forward to starting a new season with him and we know each other really well. So that’s a good thing as well.

“[His style of football is] Very exciting. You can tell by the first few sessions that I’ve done with him.

“The way he likes to play out from the back and play a lot of possession-based [football], and it suits my game really well.

“I’m looking forward to that and hopefully it can help my game go to the next stage.”

Liverpool approach Monaco for Akliouche

Liverpool have made an initial approach to Monaco for winger Maghnes Akliouche, as reported by Sky Sports.

Liverpool are understood to have checked on the potential availability of the 24-year-old France international, who is also a prime target for Paris Saint-Germain.

However, with PSG seeing several offers, the most recent is believed to be in the region of £34m (€40m), rejected by Monaco, it may just open the door for Liverpool.

Chelsea favourites to sign Kerim Alajbegovic

Chelsea are now the favourites to sign Kerim Alajbegovic from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina World Cup star is, according to the Telegraph, rated at £30million and is attracting interest from other clubs, including Juventus.

However, it’s understood that Chelsea have positioned themselves at the front of the queue with Xabi Alonso pushing for a reunion.

Alonso was at Leverkusen when Alajbegovic came through the club’s development system.

Saliba returned to London this week and underwent assessments from specialists, with it decided that surgery would not be required.

However, a lengthy period of rehabilitation will be needed and Saliba faces several months out.

Premier League newboys Hull City have confirmed the signing of Matt Targett.

The experienced defender has signed a two-year contract, with a club option of a further year.

He said: “I’m delighted to be here. It was during the England game on Saturday night that my agent rang me and said Hull City were interested.

“The next minute, I was on a phone call with the owner. He is very invested in the football club and speaks very passionately, so it didn’t take much convincing to join.

“Speaking to boys who have been here previously, they spoke very highly of the club, so it was a no-brainer.

“It’s going to be a massive challenge, but we can take huge confidence from what the likes of Sunderland and Leeds did last season.

“I’m at an age now where I feel like I am an experienced head to pass on previous experience of the Premier League to players who have not been in this situation. I’m hoping I’ll be a huge help in the dressing room.

Leaked images of new Arsenal kit

Arsenal’s new adidas away kit for the 2026-27 season has been ‘leaked’ online ahead of its official release.

As per Footy Headlines, the Arsenal 2026-27 away shirt acts as a 'reverse' version of the 1991-93 away shirt, which first introduced the famous bruised banana pattern.

The colour scheme is ‘collegiate navy' paired with red and yellow accents and incorporates the trefoil logo for a nostalgic touch.

According to the aforementioned website, the Arsenal 2026-27 away shirt will be released today, Thursday, July 23.

New Tottenham signings Jan Paul van Hecke and Andy Robertson are among the players who will travel to New Zealand and Australia for the club’s pre-season tour.

Casemiro to Inter Miami on hold

Major League Soccer says it is investigating allegations of tampering by Inter Miami after the club signed Brazil midfielder Casemiro.

Miami announced on Wednesday they had signed Casemiro - who left Manchester United at the end of last season - on a deal that runs to the end of the 2027 MLS campaign, with an option to extend until June 2029.

However, the MLS have since released a statement saying it was "reviewing a tampering allegation" against the club.

"The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete," the statement read.

"While Inter Miami CF and the LA Galaxy have reached a settlement for the discovery priority [first rights] to sign Casemiro, the terms will be released upon conclusion of the tampering investigation."

'Rogers should have joined Arsenal'

Morgan Rogers may have made a mistake by joining Chelsea despite interest from Arsenal.

That is the view of Emmanuel Petit, who played for both sides.

Speaking exclusively to Mr Gamble, the Frenchman said: "Xabi Alonso is starting his project at Chelsea, so it's going to take weeks and months to see exactly what he wants to do. I hope they're going to win games straight away, that's the priority if he wants to work without the bad noise all the time.

"But if you look at Arsenal, the environment is different. This team, the spine of the team, has been working together for years now, and they have reached their target, they won the Premier League.

"The confidence, the environment, the vision. Everything is different at Arsenal. It's exciting with a new project at Chelsea with Alonso, but in the meantime, I think the way you play, I think it would have been very different for him at Arsenal. Arsenal make Diomande enquiry

Arsenal have made an enquiry for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, as per talkSPORT.

However, journalist Ben Jacobs claims that talks are purely exploratory at this stage, with there being every expectation the Ivory Coast international joins Paris Saint-Germain.

Diomande has made it clear he favours PSG and an agreement over a five-year contract is in place, but no agreement over a fee just yet.

Fernandes to sign new Man Utd contract

Bruno Fernandes has decided to commit his future to Manchester United, reports the Express.

The Man Utd captain, who yesterday was linked with a move to Galatasaray - is into the final year of his deal at Old Trafford.

However, he is set to bring an end to any speculation regarding his future by announcing his intention to sign a new contract.

Christos Tzolis will have to pick a new shirt number at Arsenal once his £33.8million transfer is finalised.

However, Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth insists Arsenal retain an interest in Bradley Barcola after missing out on Morgan Rogers.

"Barcola is someone to look out for," Sheth told a special Sky Sports podcast analysing Arsenal's transfer window so far.

"[PSG] are very, very interested in Yan Diomande and are trying to get a deal done for him to strengthen that attack.

"If you go back to last season, in PSG's biggest games - the Champions League quarter-finals with Liverpool, the semi-finals against Bayern Munich and the final against Arsenal in Budapest - Kvicha Kvaratshkelia, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue started all of them.

"Barcola was the odd man out. Firstly, is he going to be happy to do that again next season? But if Diomande turns up as well, where does Barcola find himself on the pecking order?

"It seems to be a very good fit if Arsenal bring in someone like Barcola."

West Ham could net as much as £65m from the sale of Crysencio Summerville to Al Hilal, per Fabrizio Romano.

The deal is structured with a £55m up-front fee and £10m of add-ons.

He has been authorised to travel for his medical after snubbing interest from Roma.

Garnacho completes Chelsea exit

A deal has been agreed for Chelsea forward Alejandro Garnacho to join Aston Villa on loan with a conditional obligation to buy.

The Argentine only moved to Chelsea from Manchester United last summer in a transfer worth £40m, but his stay in west London has not turned out as he had hoped. He has tallied just 12 goal contributions in 43 appearances and struggled to win over fans with his performances.

He is now set for a fresh start, though, with plans in place for him to join Villa in an initial one-year loan move which will become permanent next summer if certain conditions are met.

Standard Sport understands those conditions should be easily achievable and relate to appearances made for Villa. It is not clear how much money will change hands should Garnacho make a permanent move, but Chelsea had set their asking price at £43m when they put him up for sale in June and are understood to be happy with the terms of sale.

Garnacho is understood to be close to completing a season-long loan move to Villa, with a conditional obligation for Unai Emery’s side to buy the Argentinian winger permanently next summer.

Villa, though, are also interested in Garnacho’s Chelsea team-mate Jackson as they look to bolster their attacking options following the British record departure of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea.

Standard Sport understands no club-to-club talks have taken place yet, but Emery is interested in reuniting with Jackson after the pair worked together at La Liga side Villarreal.

Chelsea handed major Alex Scott transfer boost

Alex Scott is said to be keen on a move to Chelsea after the Blues saw a £64million bid rejected for the Bournemouth midfielder.

Standard Sport understands that while Scott wants to join Chelsea, Bournemouth insist that the 22-year-old is not for sale as they look to tie him down to a new contract.

Scott, who has no plans to sign a new deal, enjoyed an excellent season at Bournemouth as they secured Europa League football under now Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola.

'Chelsea should replace Alejandro Garnacho with Marcus Rashford'

Chelsea are in talks with Aston Villa over a loan deal for Alejandro Garnacho, and Andy Townsend has the perfect replacement in mind.

Speaking to CasinoHawks, he said: "I think Marcus Rashford improves Chelsea's squad, he is an improvement on Garnacho, that’s for sure.

"The number we were talking about was thirty-five million. I'm very surprised that no one has come to get him for that money, even at twenty-nine. Wide strikers are asked to produce a lot of output nowadays, and there aren't many operating in the top flight at thirty-two or thirty-three. So these next couple of years for Marcus are big. It has to be the right move.

"He's on massive wages, which is an issue for any club, but you'd think he could get that to a level everyone finds acceptable. A club like Chelsea might suit him.

"I could see that. I like Pedro Neto, but he sometimes flatters to deceive. Garnacho is far too inconsistent, like Jadon Sancho, those sorts of players are difficult to accommodate.

"Rashford showed at Barcelona that he can play at a big club, he understands that mentality. At thirty-five million, I'd be surprised if a deal doesn't get done, depending on his salary demands. If he wants to stick on three hundred thousand plus a week, then he's going to have a problem.

"But there's no point in going back to Manchester United and not playing at twenty-eight. That doesn't send a great image to potential suitors if he's happy to just sit on the bench.

"Marcus and his team should be working around the clock to find the right environment for him at the right level, wage-wise. You want to play. At nearly twenty-nine, he's in his peak, and he needs to be out there more often than not."

Roberto De Zerbi has revealed how he convinced Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali to join Tottenham this summer.

Spurs secured the shock double signing of Fernandes and Tonali for a combined £185million earlier this month.

Tottenham broke their club transfer record to bring Fernandes to the club for £85m from relegated London rivals West Ham before quickly moving to trump that figure by splashing £100m on Tonali from Newcastle.

Rene Meulensteen, a former Manchester United first-team coach, is keen to see Tottenham defender make the switch to Old Trafford - but only after Michael Carrick moves on an existing option.

Liverpool confirm new arrival as Andoni Iraola's plans take shape

Andoni Iraola’s plans at Liverpool are continuing to take shape with the appointment of a new first-team goalkeeping coach.

As part of Iraola’s move from Bournemouth, he has brought Tommy Elphick, Shaun Cooper and Pablo de la Torre along with him to make up a new-look Liverpool backroom staff.

Meanwhile, analyst Tom Webber has also made the switch to Merseyside from the South Coast.

Liverpool confirm third signing of summer

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Samuel Martinez from Atletico Nacional.

The 17-year is an attacking midfielder from Colombia, and he was a star performer in the south American’s U17 Championship victory back in April this year.

He is set to join the Reds’ academy in 2027, and for the upcoming campaign, he will remain with Nacional.

Martinez follows the likes of fellow young stars Mor Talla Ndiaye and Ifeanyi Ndukwe to Anfield, with the central defensive pair both agreeing moves to Merseyside in January.

Al Hilal have reached an agreement to sign West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville for around £68million.

Standard Sport understands that Summerville will undergo a medical shortly ahead of signing a long-term contract with the Saudi Pro League side.

The forward, who netted five Premier League goals last season, had attracted significant interest this summer, with Roma submitting multiple bids for the Netherlands international.

QPR land Lamptey

Former Chelsea and Brighton full-back Tariq Lamptey has joined QPR on a free transfer after leaving Serie A club Fiorentina.

Lamptey – who represented Ghana at the 2022 World Cup and has won 11 caps – made 122 appearances for Brighton before moving to Italy last September.

“I’m excited for the opportunity ahead,” Lamptey, 25, told the official club website.

“The team have ambitious goals for this season, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Ipswich land new keeper

Ipswich have signed Dutch goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen from Volendam.

Van Oevelen, 22, joins the newly promoted club on a five-year deal for a reported fee of four million euros (£3.4m).

“As soon as I knew Ipswich were interested, it was a move I knew I wanted to make,” Kayne said on the Suffolk club’s website.

“It is an exciting time for the club, being back in the Premier League, and I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and getting started.”

Town boss Gary O’Neil is confident Van Oevelen can prove a solid addition to his squad.

“He is a young goalkeeper who has had a good taste of senior football with Volendam and wants to continue to progress his career in England,” O’Neil said.

Duran signs for Benfica

Former Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has joined Benfica on a season-long loan deal from Al-Nassr with a view to making a permanent £25.5m switch.

The 22-year-old Colombia international, a team-mate of Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia, will spend the 2026-27 season with the Portuguese club, who have paid 6.1m Euros – around £5.2m – for his services and also negotiated a 30m Euros option to buy.

Duran, who joined Al-Nassr in a £64m switch from Villa in January 2025, told Benfica’s official website: “I’m very grateful to God, just as I said when I arrived. I’m happy! I still say that it’s the biggest club in Portugal. I’m very grateful to be here.

"Obviously I want to play first-team football, whether that be at Manchester United for the next year or not," he said.

"The main aim and goal for me is to play for Manchester United week in, week out.
