Foden excited to work under Maresca
12:00 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneAfter signing a new four-year deal with Man City, Phil Foden is relishing the opportunity to get his career back on track - under the guidance of Enzo Maresca.
“So excited. Obviously, I’ve had Enzo before. When we had him in the Treble season, he was brilliant,” Foden said.
“His attention to detail, the small things that make a big difference, and even training with him at the moment, you can tell how good of a coach he is.
“I’m really excited to play under him and see where it goes.
“He’s so nice. He’s down to earth. He’s someone that you can go to and talk about anything to him, and he would help you out.
“Even if you want to work on things to get better, he’ll do one-on-one sessions with you after training.
“And that’s something he did with me as well when he was here. I did small finishing drills with him and things like that, and he really grew my game.
“So, like I said, I’m looking forward to starting a new season with him and we know each other really well. So that’s a good thing as well.
“[His style of football is] Very exciting. You can tell by the first few sessions that I’ve done with him.
“The way he likes to play out from the back and play a lot of possession-based [football], and it suits my game really well.
“I’m looking forward to that and hopefully it can help my game go to the next stage.”

The midfielder was not named in the Portugal squad for the 2026 World Cup, therefore he has been afforded the opportunity to hit the ground running at Tottenham.
Reporting for pre-season training at the beginning of the month, Fernandes has been putting in the hard yards at Hotspur Way and was handed an unofficial debut in the behind-closed-doors friendly against MK Dons on Wednesday evening.
It did not take long for Fernandes to show his quality as he broke the deadlock inside the opening three minutes with a stunning volley which proved to be the only goal of the game as Spurs began their pre-season campaign with a win.

The experienced defender has signed a two-year contract, with a club option of a further year.
He said: “I’m delighted to be here. It was during the England game on Saturday night that my agent rang me and said Hull City were interested.
“The next minute, I was on a phone call with the owner. He is very invested in the football club and speaks very passionately, so it didn’t take much convincing to join.
“Speaking to boys who have been here previously, they spoke very highly of the club, so it was a no-brainer.
“It’s going to be a massive challenge, but we can take huge confidence from what the likes of Sunderland and Leeds did last season.
“I’m at an age now where I feel like I am an experienced head to pass on previous experience of the Premier League to players who have not been in this situation. I’m hoping I’ll be a huge help in the dressing room.
“It’s a great group, very welcoming and easy to fit in. I played with Jack Butland at England youth level – he’s the only one I knew coming into the team.
“I’m looking forward to meeting the fans and hopefully we can get the place rocking for the new season.”

'Rogers should have joined Arsenal'
08:00 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneMorgan Rogers may have made a mistake by joining Chelsea despite interest from Arsenal.
That is the view of Emmanuel Petit, who played for both sides.
Speaking exclusively to Mr Gamble, the Frenchman said: "Xabi Alonso is starting his project at Chelsea, so it's going to take weeks and months to see exactly what he wants to do. I hope they're going to win games straight away, that's the priority if he wants to work without the bad noise all the time.
"But if you look at Arsenal, the environment is different. This team, the spine of the team, has been working together for years now, and they have reached their target, they won the Premier League.
"The confidence, the environment, the vision. Everything is different at Arsenal. It's exciting with a new project at Chelsea with Alonso, but in the meantime, I think the way you play, I think it would have been very different for him at Arsenal. I think he would have been straight away connecting with his team-mates on the pitch. Time will tell if it's the right move."

"Barcola is someone to look out for," Sheth told a special Sky Sports podcast analysing Arsenal's transfer window so far.
"[PSG] are very, very interested in Yan Diomande and are trying to get a deal done for him to strengthen that attack.
"If you go back to last season, in PSG's biggest games - the Champions League quarter-finals with Liverpool, the semi-finals against Bayern Munich and the final against Arsenal in Budapest - Kvicha Kvaratshkelia, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue started all of them.
"Barcola was the odd man out. Firstly, is he going to be happy to do that again next season? But if Diomande turns up as well, where does Barcola find himself on the pecking order?
"It seems to be a very good fit if Arsenal bring in someone like Barcola."

"Mason Mount is at a point in his career where he wants to play as much as possible. If he leaves, United would need to find backup for the left side.
"Patrick Dorgu can play as a left winger, but he brings a different style. Mount and Cunha both like to come inside onto their right foot. If Mount leaves, United have to consider if they have enough depth."

"Bradley Barcola is very exciting, and I would love to attract someone like Desire Doue.
"There is a lot of talent, we missed out on Rayan Cherki and Michael Olise, which is frustrating.
"I want to build a squad, and the direction of the club should be targeting players who actually want to be Manchester United players, not those just looking for the best contract. That hasn't worked in the past.

'Chelsea should replace Alejandro Garnacho with Marcus Rashford'
Wednesday 22 July 2026 11:31 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneChelsea are in talks with Aston Villa over a loan deal for Alejandro Garnacho, and Andy Townsend has the perfect replacement in mind.
Speaking to CasinoHawks, he said: "I think Marcus Rashford improves Chelsea's squad, he is an improvement on Garnacho, that’s for sure.
"The number we were talking about was thirty-five million. I'm very surprised that no one has come to get him for that money, even at twenty-nine. Wide strikers are asked to produce a lot of output nowadays, and there aren't many operating in the top flight at thirty-two or thirty-three. So these next couple of years for Marcus are big. It has to be the right move.
"He's on massive wages, which is an issue for any club, but you'd think he could get that to a level everyone finds acceptable. A club like Chelsea might suit him.
"I could see that. I like Pedro Neto, but he sometimes flatters to deceive. Garnacho is far too inconsistent, like Jadon Sancho, those sorts of players are difficult to accommodate.
"Rashford showed at Barcelona that he can play at a big club, he understands that mentality. At thirty-five million, I'd be surprised if a deal doesn't get done, depending on his salary demands. If he wants to stick on three hundred thousand plus a week, then he's going to have a problem.
"But there's no point in going back to Manchester United and not playing at twenty-eight. That doesn't send a great image to potential suitors if he's happy to just sit on the bench.
"Marcus and his team should be working around the clock to find the right environment for him at the right level, wage-wise. You want to play. At nearly twenty-nine, he's in his peak, and he needs to be out there more often than not."

'Trent Alexander-Arnold to Man Utd is possible'
Wednesday 22 July 2026 11:00 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneFormer Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes doesn't believe the rivalry between the two clubs is that deep...
"Trent Alexander-Arnold to Manchester United? Yes, it's possible. In fact I see that as more likely than a return to Liverpool, because I don't know if Liverpool would be willing to buy him back after he's left," he told Reviant.
"I think fans also have to hold on to their affection for people who gave them great performances, and Alexander-Arnold gave Liverpool some great years.
"But there are times players want a different kind of scenario. When you leave a place like Liverpool and go to Madrid, and hypothetically it doesn't work out, well, one option would be a club that isn't at its best moment, to try to help it rise again. Manchester United is a clear example of that. There's also a bit of a question regarding the Liverpool fans, or his affection for the club, it might be hurt seeing him move to Manchester.
"But in the end I think professional football has become more about that today: professional football, more than affection for a fanbase or that sense of loyalty, because I think fans also understand the player is a professional and is looking for what's best for himself and his family."

'Man Utd should target Van De Ven'
Wednesday 22 July 2026 10:00 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRene Meulensteen, a former Manchester United first-team coach, is keen to see Tottenham defender make the switch to Old Trafford - but only after Michael Carrick moves on an existing option.
Speaking to Andy’s Bet Club, he said: "Jan Paul van Hecke knows what the Premier League is about, he is a good footballer and professional. He was a good signing for Spurs and deserves to be recognised for his time at Brighton.
"There was a lot of talk about Micky van de Ven at Tottenham, with rumors linking him to Liverpool, but nothing has happened yet.
"Manchester United should be looking at Van de Ven.
"However, they need to move some of their own centre-backs first. Matthijs de Ligt has been injured, Harry Maguire brings experience, and they have young players like Heaven and Leny Yoro.
"Van de Ven is a caliber of defender who could slot in immediately. United would 100% be better with him as a left-sided center-back.
"He won't be cheap, and I don't know if United have the finances to do that."

"However, he is an ambitious player who wants to be in the starting lineup. If he isn't, he may look elsewhere.
"The national team is different, with roles for players like Oyarzabal or Borja Iglesias. In a club setting, you don't want to be the 12th man who only comes on when goals are needed. You want to play regularly."
