Mystery Toyota Model
The name Andrea Carlucci may be unfamiliar to many of us, but for those based in Europe, you might have heard of him. He's the director of marketing and product strategy for Toyota Europe, and he posted something that has made us quite curious.
On one side, there's a Land Cruiser 300 Series, the Land Cruiser that North America doesn't get. Beside it is a heavily camouflaged test car, hinting at a new crossover model that's ready to be revealed soon. So, the inevitable question is, what could it possibly be?
It Might be the Electric Land Cruiser
First reported by Australian publication Drive, it reckons that it could be the electric Land Cruiser that Toyota teased a few years ago. After all, Carlucci's caption for the photo said: "THE Legend evolves." It's a fair assumption given that it's parked beside an actual Land Cruiser.
There's no doubt that it's a crossover, and the only clue right now is the caption. The executive didn't say much about it, either, nor were there any additional hints. We do have to say it appears to be the size of a Grand Highlander, perhaps slightly larger.
No Secret
Way back in 2023, Toyota showed a concept called the Land Cruiser Se. It was displayed during that year's Japan Mobility Show, and hinted that it may reach production at some point. It was a break from tradition given that Land Cruisers have always had body-on-frame construction. Rumors from about a year ago hinted that the model might even be built in the U.S.
Now, it's still unknown if this new crossover - battery-powered or not - will carry the Land Cruiser name. That said, it's possible that it'll share the same architecture as the all-electric new-generation Highlander, but that's far from confirmed. There's also a chance that it may be based on the Japan- and China-only rear-drive Crown sedan, another model unavailable in the U.S. Either way, a new crossover is coming, and we'll see the final product before the end of the decade by the looks of it.
