Chambéry to Voiron: 174.7km/2200m
This is a Tour de France stage that passes for a breather.
Stage 17 is a classic transition day and a perhaps a last-chance saloon for any teams still hunting for their Tour moment.
So expect early fireworks to ride into the breakaway.
Four categorized climbs pepper the opening half of the stage before the road gradually eases into rolling terrain toward Voiron.
Any sprinters still hanging around will have something to say. This could be their last chance as well, especially with the Paris parade around the Champs-Élysées once again replaced by the Montmartre madness.
The rolling final 100km leaves plenty of room for tactical games to play out between a break and the chase from the bunch.
If the battle for the green jersey is still up for grabs, stages like these always add another wrinkle beyond the GC. There’s always something to race for at the Tour.
