The Tomb Raider franchise is one of the most storied action-adventure franchises in the world, and whether you’re new to Lara Croft’s story or have been following it since the 1990s, there’s no better time to be a fan than right now. Several famous actors like Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander have played Lara Croft in live-action, and Sophie Turner is set to join this line of stars in a new Tomb Raider series coming to Prime Video in the future. Production on Tomb Raider paused back in March after Sophie Turner suffered a minor injury during a stunt, but reports indicate that cameras are rolling once again. The original 1996 Tomb Raider game is also getting a ground-up remake in Unreal Engine 5, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which launches on next-generation consoles and PC on February 12, 2027.
Like Lara Croft, Tomb Raider fans are always waiting to discover their next adventure, and there’s a new project officially set to release this summer that will expand Lara’s story. Tomb Raider: Crypt of Chronos, the new board game, has officially reached its Kickstarter funding goal and plans to begin shipping to backers throughout late summer 2026 and into the fall. The synopsis of Tomb Raider: Crypt of Chronos describes Lara as going on an adventure to “the elusive island of Kairos in search of an artifact that holds the reins of time.”
The new board game, hailing from developer Iconiq Studio, is designed as a single-player experience, split into roughly one-hour adventures and even an Island Campaign mode that takes around three hours to complete. Classic Tomb Raider fans can also expect plenty of complex puzzle-solving in the new release.
Who Else Stars in Prime Video’s ‘Tomb Raider’ Series?
The two biggest names attached to star opposite Sophie Turner in Amazon’s Tomb Raider series are Jason Isaacs and Sigourney Weaver. Isaacs is best known for his roles in Harry Potter and The White Lotus, and Weaver is a sci-fi icon thanks to her work in the Alien and Avatar franchises. Additional cast members for Tomb Raider include Celia Imrie, Paterson Joseph, Bill Paterson, Sasha Luss, Jack Bannon, and more. The show was written and developed for TV by showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who recently starred opposite Harrison Ford in the fifth and final Indiana Jones movie, The Dial of Destiny.
