Game of Thrones fans have been treated to one of the best years in franchise history, with not one but two new releases on HBO for the first time ever. The first Game of Thrones show to set the tone in 2026 was A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, starring Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Soll Ansell as his young squire, Aegon Targaryen. The show was renewed for Season 2 months before a single episode of Season 1 hit streaming, and it’s already been confirmed that the show will return to HBO Max in 2027. Game of Thrones fans are currently in the heat of enjoying the third season of House of the Dragon, which is winning over fans after the polarizing Season 2 ending. The show will run for one more season before going off the air forever.
A few weeks ago, more details were revealed about a new Game of Thrones strategy game, War for Westeros, which is bringing back fan-favorite characters like Jon Snow to rewrite the history of the poorly received series finale. The game will allow players to step into the shoes of characters like Jon Snow and take on The Night King, a confrontation that was set up for years before ultimately being abandoned in the final season.
When it was announced, it was thought that the project would be officially released before the end of 2026, but it was announced over the weekend by the developer Playside that the game will now launch early next year. “We wanted to close with an update for our planned release window,” said Playside. “War for Westeros will now launch in early 2027.”
When Does the ‘Game of Thrones’ Movie Come Out?
Earlier this year, Warner Bros officially confirmed that it’s working on a Game of Thrones movie centered around Aegon’s Conquest, but the film is still in the early stages of development, so it’s unclear at this time when it will be released. Setting the movie during Aegon’s great conquest of Westeros allows for the introduction of one of the deadliest dragons in Game of Thrones history, Balerion the Black Dread. While Balerion wasn’t at his peak size during the conquest, he will still be one of the largest and most formidable dragons ever shown on screen.
